The past few years I kinda just stuck w/ the same plan, my Dad helped me choose my original plan. This past year I actually went to the doctor for the first time in a decade & got all my preventative shit done and stuff, and I have no plans to go back to the doctor unless I want a flu shot or a blood test I guess.
But you never know if you will have an emergency. This time I actually dug deep and understood what exactly each plan pays for when it comes to choosing a healthcare plan for 2020 and this shit is a mess.
I can get catastrophic insurance which works I don't go to the doctor at all I can pay a cheap monthly price, but if I do end up going (in-network) basically my insurance wouldn't cover anything and I pay full price. However if an accident happened once I pay my deductible (which would be high) my insurance pays 100%. So basically... if i'm correct if I go to the doctor for a flu shot & blood test, those are actually free as they count as preventative care, HOWEVER just visting the doctor alone I would pay full price and i'm reading can cost hundreds. Right now I only pay a 25 co-pay.
Then I can go w/ my same plan or something similar but the monthly payment is so much more than catastrophic insurance and if I needed to go the emergency room my deductible is actually lower, but if i paid my deductible in full then the rest of the bill i'd pay 20-30%. Doctor visits are
Ok I just needed to type out my thoughts and this helped I didn't even finish writing what I was writing. I have zero plans to visit the doctor but if I do i'm not paying 200 fuckin bucks because catastrophic insurance doesn't cover the actual visit. Fuck that
