They laid off like 70% of the people from my old department. I got hired in June when they added a 2nd & 3rd shift. Over time the company started to flop and couldn't handle all the contracts they ordered. Rumors were always swirling that they'd fire most of us. I saw the hidden advantage (unlike Michaela in Game Changers) and applied for a new position and got it. I just switched departments 2 months ago.
Rumors started swirling around again this week that they were going to terminate all of 3rd shift & some 2nd shift. Today they were told they were going to have a meeting, and they split them up into 2 groups. They told them in the 2 separate meetings that they were going to be laid off. The group that was staying weren't allowed to go say by to the leaving group. I was at the meeting watching it go down (I was with the staying group) and ditched when I realized the leaving group wasn't coming back.. they were collecting their unemployment papers & being walked out the door. I ran out and said goodbye to all my old co-workers including my work bff (from previous blogs if you remember) that HELPED get me my new position.
I'm so distraught and emotional right now and pissed off too.
christian_ LMAO LITERALLY it was EXAAAAAAAAAAACTLY LIKE THAT. IT was SO shady the way they did it. They thought they were SLICK and secretive about it. But 2 hours before hand I told them all that they are letting people go. I didn't know how many but I knew what the meeting was for.
But the way they split them up and sent them out the door without saying BYE??? REALLY? It really didn't feel like the American Idol mass group eliminations. I went outside crying with all of them.
zuelke LMAO trust me it was horrible. Some of the people that got to stay.... it was super odd decisions made. I think half of the staying group will quit. A lot of them were newer and one of the guys staying (I don't know him) but his ENTIRE friend group got eliminated today. It was him & 4 others that would sit at lunch together every day and he's the only one that stayed... i'm gonna try to befriend him so he's not alone. Hell i'm gonna eat alone too now that my BFF is gone.
I've been there. It sucks horribly. Our company dismantled their entire internal development department and canned over 70 people. There were more waves after that as other departments got hit. I don't know what's going on over there, but dude, look for another job for sure.
