imageDon't watch tennis - Serena wins something "YES YOU GO SERENA BEST PLAYER EVER! SHE DID THAT! WE DID THAT!"

Don't watch super action hero movies "BLACK PANTHER IS THE MOVIE OF THE CENTURY. Y'ALL BETTER SUPPORT THIS!"

Don't watch the Bachelor "HOME GIRL BETTER REPRESENT US WELL & CHOOSE A BLACK MAN OR ELSE..!"

Like hell, they don't. My Facebook feed is filled with black people who watch it especially because of her. I know my grandma watches it too.

I don't understand your point for making this blog. Why can't black people support black people even if they aren't  familiar with the thing they are supporting them for?

Meanwhile Beyonce.... *sips tea*

dav_o_79 issa joke #IssaRae

I mean I do notice these things but I don't care cause I support black people for being black alllll the time. That's what i'm known for lmfao. This is just for a chuckle not to be anti-black. I AIN'T NO COON

anas I don't get it. I mean black people are 50/50 with her. They love her for her talent, beauty, activism, pro black/pro female attitude, class, & work ethic. But the other half hate her for being light skin, reserved (they call it fake), wearing blonde wig (think she hates herself), confuses her stage command for arrogance, & just prefer to hype up random underground/has been r&b female singers and claim they sing better just cause they're darker skinned, wear natural hair, or stuck to r&b.

Black twitter is my favorite group of people. They don't take anyone's bullshit.

insanity17 i'm 50/50. I love black twitter for dragging racists. They get racists exp0sed and fired left & right. It's hilarious and they are RUTHLESS. They truly don't tolerate bull shit. But a lot of the time they are so dramatic for no reason and it embarrasses me. For example they've been coming for Taylor Swift a lot just for being popular. There is far worse things going on in the world than Taylor Swift being a popular figure to middle american families. Sure other black entertainers we stan can sing way better and deserve her level of fame but there's no point dragging her for everything just because she's liked by millions of white folks. That's just a random example off the top of my head.

Timster lol still though, it's nice to see people of color using a platform not holding back on what's bothering them. Their voices have been silenced for too long.

Timster people being racist to people within their own race, it's problematic lmao. I think she's indifferent to it and the facts speak for how much she has done for the community. She can never win, it's sad.

anas oh yeah. I just didn't know what you meant by your original comment which is why I went into detail. It is sad, cause she really has used her power & voice as THE main black celebrity more than most black actors/singers combined. She could've ruined her career after Formation/Superbowl but thank God some people stick around. And like I said colorism is REAL going both ways. The other day I saw black folks arguing about this new tv show Grownish and how the main female character is light skin & so are her 2 main black female friends on the show (Chloe & Halle, youtube singers, signed by Beyonce now too lol) and i'm just thinking how stupid they sound arguing over skin color. I get that we want to see every color represented and darker skinned black women aren't as acknowledged by the media compared to their light skin sisters but you can't place blame on light skin people FOR being light skin. At the end of the day we are all black and if slavery came back, light skin, brown, or dark you are going to be a slave lmao

Good Timster I did not want to write you off as another Tengaged coon lol.
Sent by dav_o_79,Jan 14, 2018
timster i mean their complaints are still valid. you can say colorism goes both ways but it's still lighter skinned black people that are getting the vast majority of these roles and opportunities regardless what people on the internet are saying

best that's true but dark skins try to bring down light skins to bring themselves up #Truth

timster it's more them bringing attention to an issue that doesn't get enough of it

Timster Yeah it's ridiculous and lmao good point, white racists won't diffrentiate a light skinned to a darker skinned minority. The obsession to get lighter skin in my community (South Asian) is off the charts, to the point where skin whitening products are most bought in India.

Another thing I want to add is I wish minorities stopped trying to chase after the mainstream events for acknowledgement of talent and validation. Girls trip wasnt nommed at the Golden Globes and one of the actresses called them out. Like why would you want to be nominated by an organisation that doesn't think you made the cut?

They got a nomination at the NAACP and BET awards, be happy with where you're celebrated and to everyone else it's their loss. I love how celebs like Justin Timberlake value a BET as much as any other award and he's white!

anas yess at all this. And yeah I know skin lightening is big in pretty much all Asian countries :(. It's sad. If only people could recognize beauty outside of European standards. Natalie Anderson for example was SO beautiful on SJDS. The darker she got the better she looked. I bet people like her being on TV can make a difference. And yeah Jada Pinkett Smith had a rant a couple years ago when Will wasn't nominated for an Oscar she pretty much said we need to support businesses (BET awards for example) that support us, they are not less important than the Oscars.

But I get why minorities strive to win a Grammy/Oscar as they are INDUSTRY rewarded. So it'd the biggest honor being voted for by your peers. Most award shows seem to go to whoever shows up/producers decide or voted for by the public. So I get why it's a big deal, but I'd be happy no matter where I'm nominated.

Timster I know, I had a phase of using lightening products too since it's so heavily reinforced in my family. Luckily I stopped but a cousin of mine was so desperate he used detergent bleach and burned his face.

that is true but the prestige of Oscars has come over time. If celebs support BET fully, in a 100 years time it will have the same respect. Celebs have a lot of influence and if enougblf them show they are dedicated to BET and other awards, they'll have a say in how production does things.

I hated when everyone got pissed when Justin Timberlake got an award at BET saying they shouldn't be white winners. Minority awards need to show how it's done by giving the diversity these mainstream ones seem to lack. Even though all the facts and statistics are there, films like Girls Trip did not get the nomination they deserved. If playing by the book is still not getting you credit you deserve, then the awards aren't so honourable to begin with.

It's a long but hard process but either chase for any given appreciation for a minority or make your own platform. I guess we'll see lol.
