So I actually played this, along with another game that's way higher up, together in the span of about a week during a serious depressive episode.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is such a visually stunning game, first off. Out of all the games on this list, this is at minimum top 3 in terms of graphic design. Now, I've PLAYED a few Metroidvanias but I've never actually beaten one before. That changed here. It took quite a bit of getting used to when it comes to the controls since this style of game is majorly outside my wheelhouse, but once I got the hang of things it was super smooth. It was a huge help that, again, this game is gorgeous to look at.
As for the story, it was simple but it was nice. Finding each of the wisps was a ton of fun, going to the different locales and exploring everything was a great time. This game was also pretty damn hard, one of the hardest games on here. Again, this kind of thing is majorly out of my wheelhouse but now that I've gotten a bit more accustomed to the playstyle, I'll have to give more Metroidvanias a try next year. If anyone has any recs from the genre, let me know!
