No. Does it matter that the video is one of the dumbest fucking things I’ve ever seen? No. I don’t actively return to this song too often because this is one I absolutely do not want to kill via overplay but I pop off every time it comes on and this was no exception!

FUCK YES. I just KNEW I was gonna be getting some MCR and since WTTBP is banned I was curious what song it was gonna be. I mean, what is there to say here? It’s goddamn Helena by My Chemical Romance. This is one of the most iconic and important songs in the entire emo scene for good reason! This is one of Gerard Way’s career best performances, and everyone else is putting in WORK as well. This will be a VERY hard song to top.
#LaCroix: Panic! At The Disco - I Write Sins, Not Tragedies
So this SHOULD be another easy one, right? It’s I Write Sins by P!ATD. Another iconic song from the scene. The issue is… I’m kinda sick of this song. It is a very good song, but it’s not one that holds up to years of overplay. That said, it did kinda hit on this playthrough which it hasn’t in a while so I think I can be a bit kinder to it here than I would have. This is also a song chock full of memes, which I am always down for a good meme so I’m into that. But I digress.
#SeongWoo: YUNGBLUD - Parents
OKAY! So, I was a little worried seeing this, I’ve only ever heard his verse on I Think I’m OKAY and I hate his verse there, so I was a bit worried. But, no this bangs a lot harder than I was expecting. I’m always down for a banger about generational trauma, especially given my… less than stellar relationship with my own parents. I went into this with skepticism and am coming out of my first listen wanting to replay this for a while. Very pleasant surprise here!
#MrRobzilla: Jimmy Eat World - The Middle
I mean shit, what is there to say here? This is another super obvious pick and for good reason. Even if a song like this is way more mainstream than most of Jimmy Eat World’s catalog, this is obviously a fantastic song that is widely beloved and I am no exception to that! THIS is what I want my quasi-inspirational songs to sound like, there’s so many songs like this but they make it WORK here.
#Zeptis: Adam Lambert - Whataya Want From Me
Does this count as emo? I mean, I guess he fits the aesthetic, this isn’t exactly what I had in mind but sure, I will take it. No point in being semantic here. Anyway yeah this is a really good song that I like a lot. I loved his first album, and I feel like he deserved to win AI over Kris Allen although given the fact that nobody remembers him while Adam is busy fronting goddamn QUEEN I think we all know who really won.
#Lucas_RFS: The Used - Blue And Yellow
God, I completely forgot about The Used. Now, this is a sound I SHOULD be able to get behind. But the way the vocals are mixed is just so weird to me. They feel very drowned out by the music which is, admittedly, not bad, but this dude’s incoherent voice just isn’t enough to boost this song too high. Sorry!
#Spinfur: Paramore - Misery Business
Alright, time to get canceled. Again. I basically feel the same about this that I do about I Write Sins. It’s a fine song and I understand why everyone likes it but I have never sought it out once and likely never will. I GET why this is their big hit but god does it just not click for me the way I want it to, like so many of their other songs have.
#Turkeylover: The Pretty Reckless - Make Me Wanna Die
First off, god I am fucking WEAK for Taylor Momsen. Even though I prefer men, she’s always been my celebrity crush. But how’s the song? It’s really fucking good. The Pretty Reckless are an awesome band, their music is dark as fuck (with how often they sing about death/hell) and tbh I’m very into that.
