#Yswimmer96: Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight
Yeah, this is one of my all time favorite songs. I have loved this song from the first time I heard it, everything from the brooding tone to the iconic percussion (especially that breakdown!) to the haunting lyrical themes of someone drowning and Phil not saving them when given the chance. I always turn the volume all the way up and lose myself in the atmosphere every time this comes on, this was such a good pick!
#NewNightmare7: Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody
Now THIS is some classic stuff. I loved Whitney so much, she brought a level of energy and passion in everything she did that it was never hard to get swept up in! I don’t have much to say about this song, this is just obviously fun and great.
#Txashaun: Queen - Another One Bites The Dust
Freddie Mercury was a god among men and we did not deserve that absolute legend. The fact that a band known for their grandiosity got away with such a simplistic song is pretty wild, but here we are. This is a beloved classic for good reason,
#Weetmaster: Journey - Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)
This song is kinda melodramatic in a fun way, the singer is really just GOING for it like in every other Journey song. There’s a lot of power in the words, unlike a lot of other similar songs about breakups or commitment I actually feel like he means what he says, and unlike a lot of other melodramatic songs I feel like this one earns it with its tone and presentation. Excellent song!
#Yswimmer96: Mumford & Sons - Winter Winds
I haven’t thought about Mumford & Sons in a long time, this was interesting to return to. I used to really LOVE them when they were new, they sounded so different from everyone else that I just had to love them. Nowadays I’ve kinda lost interest and don’t really care for anything they’ve put out since their 2nd album. That said, their first 2 albums hold up really well and I’ve come back to them more than I expected. This song in particular is pretty damn great and fits the times really well!
#NewNightmare7: Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal
Fleet Foxes are a band I’ve always meant to check out but just never got around to it, so I’m happy to have finally been given the opportunity here! And the first impression of the band was… Amazing! The worst part of this song is the fact that it’s so short, I could listen to something like this for hours and not get sick of it. I love the harmonies, I love the instrumentals, I love the way everything comes together, I love the atmosphere, it feels so chilly yet at the same time a faint glow of warmth shines through.
#Txashaun: The Mamas and the Papas: California Dreamin
Oh hell yeah, this was an INSPIRED choice! There’s so many songs about how great summer is but not many people want to touch on what happens when that summer comes to an end. This song is chock full of atmosphere, it’s got a lovely autumnal vibe which of course is what they were going for so it hit the mark. This is a lovely song for a nice walk around town late at night in the fall, just taking in the atmosphere and your surroundings.
#Weetmaster: The Neighbourhood - Sweater Weather
I used to really like this song when I was as pretentious as this song is. This song aged like milk in the sun though unfortunately. I get what they’re going for with that first few verses, it’s decently atmospheric but I’ve just heard so much better tbh. Then the last chorus shows up and just completely derails the song in a weird direction that almost gives me the vibe that the characters in this song are now getting hypothermia since they’ve just got that sweater instead of a whole ass jacket. Idk, this isn’t doing it for me.
