IMPORTANT: I saw a Facebook Fight About

whether public schools should add lgbtq rights movement to the curriculum and many of the comments saying no were SO hateful (coming from a straight male)!
Schools teach you the history of African-American's fight for rights.
Schools teach you about the women's rights movement.
My school even teaches (not preach but teaches) about the history of religions.
The lgbtq community has been oppressed of rights in this country and their progress is certainly history! Why ignore it unless you simply have that much hate inside of you??

it should be mandatory to be taught

There's only so much that can be taught and priorities need to be made.

One issue is that there is still disagreement on what actually happened. A certain figure at a certain event is controversially considered male by some and female by others, and whether that person did what people say they did is also contested.

Further, who gets included? Same-sex marriage rights is one thing, but how about trans people? And who counts as trans? It only gets messier as we further question things.

So it's hard to objectively teach about it, making it hard to implement in a curriculum.
