PREVIOUSLY ON SURVIVOR: Bob arrived at Edge of Extinction and immediately made fire, some shelter, and was able to find a comfortable enough sleep. “If anyone is tailor-made for the Survival aspect of Survivor, it’s me,” Bob said. On the Lacina tribe, everyone seemed at peace with the decision to vote off Bob. At the Mariano camp, Fabio was settling in for sleep, when he heard Richard and Vecepia talking. “The thing is,” Richard said, “these young kids are gonna knock us all out if we don’t team up with the old schoolers and take out Fabio and Tommy.” Fabio couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Fabio told Tommy that they needed to look for an idol. “This late at night?” Tommy asked. Fabio told him it was necessary, and the two set off once everyone fell asleep. Searching high and low, Tommy and Fabio searched deep into the night, until Fabio came across a hole in a tree. “Oh my god, bro,” Fabio said, pulling out the idol. Tommy couldn’t believe it. “If the Old Schoolers do turn on Fabio and myself, this is some nice ammunition to have.” The next morning, the Lacina tribe woke up, and everyone felt in good spirits, except Chris. “I’m worried that if we lose again, I’m going to go home,” Chris told Tina. Tina told Chris that she was also worried, seeing that Tina was perceived as weaker than Brian, Earl, and J.T., and Tina decided to set out and look for an idol. “I am going to search the water well,” Tina said. She found a clue in the plank of the water well with a picture of the tree she needed. She searched the jungle, and found the tree, and was able to find the idol. “This is so nice,” Tina said, “and it should certainly keep me around a lot longer.” At the Vlachos tribe, the idol hunt was also full blast. Aras, Mike, and Chris Underwood were searching the most. “They’re like animals,” Todd said to Jenna. Jenna said that she was definitely worried about the three of them, and that they needed Cochran on their side. Cochran, however, knew that having three big meat shields around might be nicer than Jenna, a big social threat, and Todd, a strategic one. “I think down the line, Todd and Jenna are going to be harder to beat,” Cochran said. Cochran pulled Chris Underwood aside and told him to look lower rather than higher. Underwood looked low and found an idol in a tree in a hole lower to the ground. Underwood brought it back and showed Cochran. “I’m glad I told Chris that tip,” Cochran said, “because it definitely puts me in with that crowd, and still allows me to pull in Chris to mine, Jenna, and Todd’s side should I change my mind.” At the immunity challenge, the tribes had to race through a maze with a giant snake, and after completing the maze, had to place the snake on a giant platform. Natalie and Cochran sat out. The Lacina tribe took an early lead, with the Vlachos tribe slightly behind. Sadly for the Mariano tribe, Tom and Fabio were the only ones truly pulling weight, as Vecepia, Tommy, and Hatch all struggled. Todd and Jenna were starting to trail for the Vlachos tribe, but the Lacina tribe pulled ahead, without a single weak link. The Lacina tribe won, with the Vlachos tribe close behind, sending the Mariano tribe to tribal council. Back at camp, Tom and Vecepia knew they were the swing votes. “Obviously, all eyes are on Hatch,” Vecepia said, “but Hatch is also old school and may be a useful number, whereas Fabio and Tommy could play a much faster, strategic game.” Tom said that he wasn’t worried about Tommy, since his game was a very social, trusting one, but Fabio made him nervous as he was so free spirited. Tommy and Fabio talked about whether or not to play Fabio’s idol. “Do we think Tom and Vecepia are on our side?” Fabio asked Tommy. Tommy wasn’t sure, considering Tom seemed very honest with him. Before tribal, Tom told Tommy that everyone was going to vote Fabio, and they should follow suit. “I like Tom,” Tommy said, “but why would you tell a New Schooler that the New Schoolers are being targeted?” At tribal council, Tom said that he felt like the tribe was strong, and there was a consensus target. Fabio said that since he was on the outs, he assumed he was the target. Hatch simply said that the Old Schoolers outweighed the New Schoolers, and there was a clear path. Tommy said that he was surprised at how openly the Old Schoolers were talking their strategy, and he applauded both Richard and Tom for being so confident. Before the votes were read, Fabio stood up. “I didn’t want to have to play this so early, but here we go,” Fabio said, handing his idol over. Tom looked pissed, and Hatch laughed, knowing where the target was probably headed. The first four votes were all for Fabio, and didn’t count. Fabio and Tommy high fived as the next two votes were for Hatch, sending the first ever Survivor winner home. On the way out, Hatch said “New School bamboozles the old,” and Hatch danced his way out. Hatch was given the opportunity to go to extinction. “No clothes, no worries. I’m saying YES to the edge,” Hatch said. Hatch got on the boat and headed to the Edge of Extinction.
