PREVIOUSLY ON SURVIVOR: The 10 Athletes and 10 Actors met at the beach to begin their Survivor journey. Each celebrity had to grab a buff of their tribe color (athletes were blue, actors were orange). In one of the buffs on each tribe was a secret advantage which would be revealed to them later. They all pulled the buffs then went to camp. At the Athletes camp, immediately, Kareem found the secret advantage in his buff. It said that he had an Only Vote advantage that would allow him to be the only one casting a vote. Unfortunately, this advantage was only allowed to be used at the first tribal council that you attend. On the actors tribe, Zendaya was the one who got the advantage. It also said the same thing as Kareem’s. After the first tribal council that each advantage holder attends, if unused, the advantage must be disposed. The actors immediately started bonding, with Mandy and Whoopi acting as the parents of the group, while Disney starts Corbin and Zendaya getting along well and the group of women consisting of Kate, Hilarie, and Jodie got along too. The only one struggling to fit in was Jack, who knew he’d have a tough time bonding with everyone else. At the Athletes tribe, however, everyone seemed to already be playing the game. Serena and Venus discussed their plan working as a duo. They knew they’d be big targets but knew that they wanted to align with all the females. They met with Aly, Danica, and Bethany about creating an all girls alliance. Danica thought it was way too early to think about alliances, and went to Tim, Apolo, and Michael, telling them that the Williams sisters were already trying to make alliances. Danica knew that she wanted to play with the men, because they would be bigger targets come merge, and she’d be able to maintain their loyalty better. Kareem met with Jerry, and told him that they had to stick together because they were slightly older than the rest. Kareem showed Jerry his “only vote” advantage to pledge loyalty. Jerry said that Kareem should try to keep quiet about that, and they shook on their bond. At the first challenge, the Athletes came in quite confident, while the Actors looked nervous. First was the water portion, where four castaways would swim out to collect puzzle pieces and bring them back to shore. Aly, Serena, Michael, and Apolo were strong in the water portion, with Michael being the obvious strong force. For the Actors, it was Hilarie, Zendaya, Bill, and Dylan who attempted to get a lead. Then it was the obstacle course portion. With a strong lead, the Athletes had Tim, Bethany, Jerry, and Venus running the course. The Actors, when they finally got started on the land portion, had Corbin, Jodie, Jack, and Kate run the land obstacle course. Jodie and Jack struggled, but Corbin and Kate helped lead them through it. The Athletes finally got to the puzzle, where Danica and Kareem tried to work through, but struggled. The Actors, after being super far behind, sent Whoopi and Mandy to come back and try to win it. Knowing they were the oldest members of the tribe, they wanted to prove their worth. Mandy began to get a groove going, and from behind, the Actors were able to win it. Danica and Kareem were upset but knew they tried hard. Back at camp, the Athletes were devastated. Tim said that it was fine, and everyone has those days. The women met to discuss who they wanted to get out, and decided that Kareem was the one who would slow them down the most in the future. Danica knew that the men may want to target her, and didn’t want to go against Kareem because she knew how hard he tried on the puzzle. So she decided to talk to Apolo, Tim, and Michael about the possibility of blindsiding one of the Williams girls. “They’re a strong duo, and the longer they play together, the more dominant and unbeatable they get.” Apollo, Tim, and Michael were originally targeting Danica, but thought that Danica brought up a good point about getting rid of a strong pre-game alliance. Kareem talked to Jerry not sure if he should use the only vote. Jerry thought that it would put too big of a target on his back, and that he would try to see if the other guys would vote for Danica. When Jerry went to talk to Tim about it, Tim said that he wasn’t targeting Kareem, and that the plan was to split up the Williams sisters. This made Jerry excited, but also nervous, knowing it was a big move out of the gate, but Tim reassured Jerry that they had the numbers. At tribal council, Kareem said that he was nervous it was going to be either him or Danica because of the puzzle, but that he gave it his all and hoped the tribe would see that. Serena said that it was tough to decide who to boot because everyone was an athlete and everyone has strength. “It’s about who we can stay tight with in the future,” Venus said, backing up her sister. Before the voting began, Kareem glanced at Jerry, and Jerry shook his head “no,” signaling Kareem not to play the advantage, as it would make him way too big of a threat. Kareem trusted his friend to be telling him the truth. When the votes were read, Kareem had four votes (from Venus, Serena, Aly, and Bethany). The next vote was for Venus, making the women seem a little confused. The next four votes were for Venus, and the Williams sisters laughed, not realizing that they were being targeted, but knowing they had all five of the women’s votes. When the last vote was read, it was a vote for Venus, shocking the entirety of the women (except for Danica). Venus was blindsided, and her sister was also left in tears. Aly and Bethany were shocked, but knew that they couldn’t just divide themselves male vs. female, and had to create a new alliance. Venus walked out upset at the outcome, wondering who flipped, and wishing the rest of the athletes luck. Kareem was relieved that he didn’t get voted out and that he had a good ally in Jerry. The Athlete’s “only vote” advantage was destroyed after never being played, while the Actor’s is still in in play until their first tribal.
