This is bullshit, person u deliver don't need to thank u, only the shop owner must, since he asked u to do it and even in most of times, these delivers are part of some deal, where u recieve a gift too.
SmoothStalker12 well it's between u and the shop owner still, if u r not getting anything and u did not owe him anything don't help. Ppl who receive gifts have made some deal and they did their part of it, so this is the shop owner's part where they are getting their gifts.

Literally this is just basic courtesy to say thanks. Gifters are under pressure with other people purchasing and having to be fast and on time. I always thanked the owner and gifted whether it's 1 or 50 ts
