So the other day I was working customer service and this woman comes up to my desk and wants to return these 3 baby items. There's a huge conflict and a lot of laws & regulations to returning baby stuff (mostly formula) that could have been opened and had something put inside of it.
I call a manager to ask and he oks it, but her story was basically she was pregnant for the first time, but her and her husband just got in a horrible car accident, hit by a tractor trailer, and that she lost her baby. She had just had a baby shower, and she was just trying to get rid of all the baby stuff to help her cope through her loss.
So i'm getting ready to refund these products, then put the money on a gift card for her (because she didnt have a receipt because "baby shower"), so I scan the items and it says "Item not Found" on them all.. which is odd, it means we dont have that bar code associated with any product. It occasionally happens, but it happened to all 3 of them so I knew something was up.
Had to call for a manager again, who used our tech gun thingy to inform her that we haven't had those products in our store in at least 6 months.. she basically gives up, says ok, and walks out saying "maybe they didn't get it from here, then..."
I was baffled someone would come up with that kind of scam/lie just to get maybe $20 on a gift card only valid at our store? like, why? Did she think she could actually get away with this when we've never carried the products she was trying to "return"?
Can't post this on FB for obvious reasons, but wanted to share a weird/bizarre situation I had.

so where did she get those products? Maybe she genuinely thought they were from your store? When I worked at Kohls people would bring other merchandise to us for returns cuz they thought it was from us
Piddu some people maybe, but most of the time you can get a feeling from who's bullshitting for free money and who is genuinely concerned and confused. This woman gave up as soon as I called my manager over again, and he told her we didn't have the products.
Plus, you can easily donate items to less fortunate families, or give to another mommy. Why return them for cash?
