Tommy is really well...what you'd expect from a District 9 boy. His family works in the grain fields and has done for generations. From a young age, this meant Tommy was handy with all kinds of farming tools. By the time he was 12, he drove a tractor for the first time. His family is large; four brothers and three sisters. Tommy is directly in the middle, being the 5th oldest sibling. Many of his siblings have had to take out tesserae before, but none of them had ever been reaped before
When Tommy's name was called, the people in the reaping square looked solemnly as Tommy made his way up the stairs to the stage. Peacekeepers have since stated that they were worried Tommy might drop dead of fright, as he was shaking uncontrollably, and pleaded for one of his older brothers to volunteer for them. They didn't, leaving their brother to go to the games alone
Tam's father owns a tractor repair show. Many of the locals bring their tractors in to get repaired here. Tam works the front, working the books and the schedule. Tam's mother had died when she was just three, and she had no other family than her father. The pair had grown close over the years, with Tam spending hours each day with her father. Her father always said that one day, he'd have earned enough money, and they'll buy a small place on the edge of the District, where they'd lead peaceful lives
When Tam was called, her father was extremely upset, pleading with many of the girls to volunteer for his daughter. The Peacekeepers eventually had to escort him away. In her final speech, Tam said a poem she had written about a small house in grain fields, saying it was the life she'd always wanted, but the life she was never going to get. A tear formed in many of the audience's eyes, the mayor even patting her on the back as she was led away
Ali's a big, muscular boy from the Northern area of District 10. He's a very controversial figure in the District, especially after an allegation from a young girl the year before that he was harassing her. The report never went far, however, many in the area sided with the girl, stating that they believed the report to be true. Often in the street, people purposefully dumped their garbage onto Ali as he walked past
When Ali's name was called, many that came from the North celebrated, taunting Ali as the Peacekeepers struggled to pull him to the stage. He eventually fought them off, running at a small boy that was laughing. He then grabbed the boy by the throat, lifting him into the air. The crowd quickly started screaming, with a Peacekeeper having to shoot Ali in the leg. Shortly after rescuing the boy, a nurse at the Peacekeeper station was called, who sedated Ali, and he was transported to the train to the capitol
Adaline is the youngest tribute this year. She works in a small veterinarian clinic, specializing in cows and bulls. She's known around the clinic, as she plays with these animals in her spare time, stating that they are peaceful creatures. Her main job at the clinic is meant to be as a cleaner of cow feces, but she often spends more time with the animals outside than doing her actual job. While in many places, this would get her fired, the staff don't mind, saying that the cows don't actually excrete inside that often
When her name was called, many of the staff cried slightly, and she was quickly located. She looked like she wanted to hold back tears as the Peacekeepers grabbed her, pulling her up to the stage. In her final speech, she told the staff at the clinic to look after "Raphael", a bull that had arrived at the clinic at the same time as Adaline, before his owner suddenly disappeared. Unable to sell the bull, the clinic decided that, instead of just killing him, they'd keep him at the clinic. Adaline then stated that he was her favoruite. This was considered by many to be one of the saddest reapings they've ever attended
Logan currently lives with his grandparents, after his parents were killed in a tragic house fire two years earlier. She managed to escape, as his room was closest to the backdoor, escaping just seconds before fire fully consumed the house. It's clearly noted that Logan has trauma from this incident, panicking every time he sees a fire, which isn't an uncommon occurrence in this neighborhood, as electricity is only on for three days of the week
When his name was called, many of the boys around him tried to comfort him, but it was clear this wasn't working, as Logan was already panicking about the arena. Fires in the arena were a key to survival, and it seemed he knew that. The Peacekeepers quickly located him, walking him up to the stage. He seemed incapable of words in his final speech, spluttering out something about Tangerines before being led away
Ahmada's family had never been very lucky with the Hunger Games. Her great, great grandfather was believed to have been reaped for the very first games, but records are foggy, and it's only a story passed down through the generations. Despite this, four other members of her family have been reaped, including her aunt in the 74th Games, and her older brother in the 90th Games
When her name was called, a curse was heard from under her breathe, but she walked out of her row, and walked up to the stage, seemingly emotionless. She started with "Dead Eyes" at the audience in front of her. She spoke deeply and coldly in her final speech, not really saying anything emotional to her friends or family, stating that they had to have been used to it by now and that soon she'd be just another number in the family's statistic book
This year, District 12 had gone through a crisis. Many coal milers had been released from their jobs, leading to job and money shortages across the District. Deaths from starvation grew to higher than seen in many years, with many also dying from a rare strain of "Coalavirus", which had existed in only district 12 for many years. Unknown to the people of 12, but in less than two years time, this very strain of virus would cause a pandemic across Panem after one of the tributes they send into the 99th Hunger Games was infected
It was noted by the mayor that many of the District 12 children were extremely malnourished. Many of the tributes seemed to have clothes just kind of hanging off them. Shaft was no exception to this, soon appearing with a grey shirt that was too big for him, as he tried to hold his trousers up because they kept sliding off. The mayor immediately said that this would be a long year for the District. Shaft eventually spoke about coal, before being led away
Much like others, Meil had suffered from the Hunger Crisis, her father eventually dying because he forbade his children from taking our tesserae. It seems that didn't matter in the end. Meil was so thin by the time the reaping rolled around, that Capitol doctors later stated that, had she not been chosen for the games, she likely had just a week to live anyway, with her stomach beginning to eat itself from the inside
When her name was called, Meil staggered up to the stage, before collapsing in exhaustion. The mayor looked between the boy holding his pants up, and the girl collapsed on the stage, before saying that the tributes this year looked like a great bunch, before disappearing, not to make another public appearance until the start of the games
Soren and Pia had lived in Greenland their entire lives. When they were born conjoined twins, it was predicted that they wouldn't survive past a month, yet they managed to do so. They received health support from the government of Denmark, and when they were 15, a treatment was offered that would allow them to be separated, however, it did come at a great risk. Only a week before the surgery was meant to take place though, Denmark went to war with Panem, Panem winning and claiming Greenland as District 13. All of Soren and Pia's healthcare went out the window, with the pair being left to fend for themselves
Reaping didn't take place in District 13, however, it was planned to be that way. The night before the reaping would have taken place, there was a knock on Pia and Soren's door. Not much is known after this point, but a neighbor heard them get into a truck. It was then stated on Capitol TV that District 13's reaping had happened, but wasn't broadcast due to technical issues. Many viewers accepted this, and Soren and Pia were soon revealed the night before the games as District 13's tributes. Shortly after the reaping they were "Rushed to the hospital" due to an accident on the train, and not much else is known, however, they were very visibly separated in the pictures shown
And well...that's it! If you were wondering, yes, it was the plan for the twins to be separated after the games, however, due to the controversy, the idea caused, I've changed the basic idea behind that, however, the tributes will still keep the twist! And because it's not exactly a secret anymore, yes, the District 13 tributes will be the assassins for this year's games :)
