ESC All-Stars (Qualification 1: 2017)

Oct 3, 2020 by SeaViper
Copied straight from my Reddit post because it's midnight and I really don't feel like changing all the words from "Reddit" to "Tengaged"

Hi, welcome to ESC All-Stars, the little contest to find out which song of the last four years is the best. The champion of this edition will join the previous three winners from the previous years (2013-2016 the winner was Bulgaria 2016, 2009-2012 the winner was Sweden 2012, and 2005-2008 the winner was Finland 2006...I know, really creative winners!)

Here's how the format will work: There are four qualification rounds, each round being a year, so Round 1 is 2017, 2 is 2018, 3 is 2019, and 4 is 2020. The top 10 in each qualification round advance to the main show, which I will touch on in a minute

Semi-finals work basically. Songs are in the same semi-finals they are in the show, and I take the votes from various different "Top X" videos on Youtube. After that, there are 10 qualifiers in each semi, so then this is the stage it falls into the hands of the people on Reddit!

The 20 qualifiers and the 6 auto-qualifiers are then placed into a poll for anyone to vote in. People can vote as many songs as they want in one go, so it could just be their favourite...or all of them, not that there's much point in that. The 10 most voted songs will advance to the all-star stage, more on how that one will work once we reach it!

Now, I suppose it's time to reveal the qualifiers of the semi-finals! I'll also share my thoughts on some of the results because there are some I was not expecting to make it, some I'm glad made it, and the sheer difference between these and the real show. I will also include the points

SEMI-FINAL 1:

1st: Portugal (95 points)

2nd: Azerbaijan (77 points)

3rd: Belgium (75 points)

4th: Finland (67 points)

5th: Sweden (61 points)

6th: Albania (56 points)

7th: Moldova (52 points)

8th: Armenia (47 points)

9th: Poland (41 points)

10th: Latvia (29 points)

---------------------------------------

11th: Greece (24 points)

12th: Cyprus (18 points)

13th: Georgia (14 points)

14th: Australia (12 points)

15th: Czech Republic/Iceland (11 points for both)

17th: Montenegro (4 points)

18th: Slovenia (0 points)

Portugal coming 1st was no shock, neither was the qualification of Azerbaijan, Belgium, Sweden, Moldova or Armenia. Poland I wasn't sure was qualifying but was glad it did. Finland I thought would qualify, but I was shocked at its Top 4 finish. For Albania, I was expecting a low qualification at best, like 9th or 10th. Latvia I wasn't sure about, deciding it would probably be either close to elimination, or close to qualification. Greece I was expecting to be relatively safe, but let's just say that I wasn't upset to see them out. Cyprus and Georgia I wasn't expecting to make it, and the others beneath them I wasn't really expecting much from. I thought Australia might be a little higher possibly. Montenegro getting 4 points was kind of shocking though, and the number of times it just missed out on points had me shocked. Slovenia consistently kept getting 11th and it was honestly sad as they got 11th and 12th like 3 times in a row but couldn't score anything

SEMI-FINAL 2:

1st: Bulgaria (81 points)

2nd: Denmark (63)

3rd: Hungary/ North Macedonia (Both 62 points)

5th: Netherlands/ Belarus (Both 60 points)

7th: Estonia (48 points)

8th: Austria (43 points)

9th: Israel (39 points)

10th: Norway (29 points)

----------------------------------

11th: Switzerland (27 points)

12th: Romania (23 points)

13th: Serbia (15 points)

14th: Ireland (11 points)

15th: Croatia (8 points)

16th: Lithuania/ Malta (Both 2 points)

18th: San Marino (0 points)

Bulgaria the only country to get points from every juror that voted. I was expecting them to win this semi anyway, so no shocks. Denmark coming 2nd though was not something I was expecting. I thought they'd qualify but maybe in like 8th or 9th, not 2nd. North Macedonia I'm also really happy to see qualify, and also so high, getting 3rd with Hungary, which I knew would probably get top 5 at least. Netherlands and Belarus had a journey though- Belarus had votes from everyone until the penultimate vote, and the Netherlands went through a stage of getting 3 12's in a row, then nothing for 5 votes. Estonia spent its whole time battling Austria, both of which always seemed to be getting very similar results and tying the whole way through until Estonia pulled ahead at the last vote. Not shocked to see either of those two. Norway came out of the blue, spending most of its time in the bottom 3 until a sudden surge. I was expecting them to be a brink qualifier at most. Switzerland was so sad though, as they were 11th throughout the whole of voting. Now, the biggest shock for me is Romania failing to qualify! I- What went wrong there? Also, Serbia after seeing so many people talking about how robbed it was flopping in this as well. The rest are unremarkable, but San Marino was another Slovenia, getting so close to getting points, and on the final vote I really thought they had at least one but nope, they got 11th
