I went to give a lecture today about gender and sexual diversity
Me in the lecture: because LGBTQIA+ bodies are watched, punished, controlled and violated by countless institutions, the first of them is the church [...] the decimation of indigenous peoples through European colonization and the church instituted a binary system and killed cultures and people who lived here.
At the end of the lecture, the presenter: well, we would like to thank the bishop, the nuns and the priests for their presence........
Who was sponsoring the lecture was a Catholic Church and a Catholic university... nuns and priests watching me....
In Canada, I think it was the protestant churches that wanted to assimilate the Indigenous peoples through the implementation of residential schools. It's quite tragic and Canada is rectifying this through various ways, and thanks to lectures like the one you gave, we can over come so much.
