imageI want to announce I won a $1000 Sociology scholarship this morning.

DESPITE:
- Surviving Covid (mild infection)
- Surviving Severe Depression (celebrating 8 years of the loss of my dad in March)
- Going into debt after transferring to university from community college.
- Being with a guy that truly loves me in a healthy relationship.
- Finally reaching my dream of creating a web project that a lot of people are as passionate as I am to see come alive.
- Just everyday shit everyone is going through because of the pandemic, health, and mental health issues.

Looking back at my short scholarship response. I said a VERY wrong answer that is controversial. I literally admitted that I am going to destroy the basic structure away from multiple-choice assessments when I become a professor. I figure to make significant contributions to anything, we can make the systematic change and offering a new way for students to teach the love of sociology than to just pass exams for an "A". I am so FUCKING proud of myself. I am honored to invest in such a powerful field to educate people about society and to make their communities better than the way they found it.

1 Year for my BA
3 Years for my MA
I cannot wait for my dream to teach!

How do you plan to make a significant contribution to the field of Sociology?

I plan on contributing to sociological research towards social justice and qualitative approach. I have conducted a study of the impact Psychology has on first-generation college students of color back in community college. I saw a major research issue when people of color were excluded in the 1950s. As sociologists, we need to conduct research on the missing voices to make sure to include everyone and make data accurate as possible and not towards certain groups of people. I plan to teach Sociology away from the traditional structure of multiple-choice assessment towards an applied approach where I will make students critically think, apply the theories to their everyday lives, and be more equitable to teach my students the love of learning Sociology. I strongly believe my contributions towards research and teaching will make a significant impact on the everchanging field and the future of sociologists entering the field after me.
