On Canada Day I wear an orange (indigenous-made) "Every Child Matters" shirt. Which, to be clear, is not about bodily autonomy. It is the thousands (and rising) of indigenous childrens' bodies that are STILL being uncovered at the sites of the genocidal Residential "Schools". I find it really difficult to celebrate a country that facilitated such a heinous place not too long ago. And it continues on through other systems today. I acknowledge how lucky I am to be on this land, and to be afforded the privileges I have... but it feels wrong to celebrate these days.
