Matt is the first playable protagonist on this list that had an actor with a good graspe on what his character was supposed to be. In an interview he described Matt as a meathead, who loves his girlfriend, and just wants everyone to be happy, and in my opinion, I find that to be eerily accurate. We get a glimpse into this early on in the story, where the game gives us several choices as to how to deal with Mike, and you as the player have to be actively attempting to cause chaos if we want that juicy wrestling match to carry out in our games. We quickly get another glimpse where we’re conflicted between two of the major character elements Matt brings to the table. Unfortunately for us, the game values Emily more than his people pleasing. If Matt sides with Emily, we don’t have to use the Axe to bust open the cable car station, and Emily will squeeze through the window later. Buuut, if we select the more people pleasing option by attempting to pull your girlfriend out of the fight to calm her down, both women turn on us and we’re stuck using our Axe to bust open the cable car.
We’re then faced with a similar split decision, where we can choose to save Emily when she wants to be saved, or attempt to save her from a more stable ground, unfortunately for us.This time the game punishes us for giving into Emily’s wishes. If we choose to save Emily too many times. A Wendigo snatches us and puts a hook right through our jaw.
Matt is a really cool dude, and the actor who plays him also seems like a really cool down to earth guy, the only reason why he isn’t higher on this list is because ALL of his gameplay revolves around choices, and he NEVER really gets a clear winning option. Everything is confusing and muddling. The same action, or motivator could be rewarded in one case, and condemned in the next. More of a gameplay flaw than a character flaw, but it made me dread picking up the controller when he was being played.
In my first playthrough, Matt got HOOKED through the jaw by a Wendigo, and unfortunately did not survive until dawn. However, in the event that he does survive, literally ALL of his police interviews are regarding and show his care for his friends, rather than focussing on himself and his trauma. What a guy.

"I was right there, and I could have done something - I tried to do something...I wasn't good enough.."
“There’s a lot more to this guy than being a mean, lean, luggage carrying machine.”
“Define, ‘okay’ “ - After being hit by Jess with a shovel.
Jordan Fisher is a great guy but his acting just comes off too emotional for me so I couldn't stand Matt...I killed him intentionally with the moose :x
i loved matt! i think he's super underrated because people think he's too "boring" but that's more of the game's flaw imo for not featuring him as much. he's such a good guy and i agree its way too easy to kill him.

Unfortunately the gameplay shafted him. He’s a great character and would probably be #4 or 5 had the game not given him so many lose-lose choices, or choices that are conflicting to what the game wants to reward.
