RSF Season Rankings (Part 41)

Sep 21, 2017 by RShowFreak
I have decided to rank each of the RSF Seasons I have hosted based off of what I remember and with each part of this blog series, add my thoughts on the following season.

For descriptions of all Gen 1 Seasons (1-20), read here:

Seasons:

1. Free Agents - See Gen 2 finished blog (Seasons 21-30) linked above

2. The Gauntlet 2 - This was another great season within the RSF Franchise.  The 2 teams were divided based on when players joined Tengaged (i.e. Veterans vs Rookies) and despite initial hesitance that this could cause unbalanced teams, both teams proved throughout the season to be pretty even with some challenges being some of the closest in the franchise.  The cast was extremely active throughout with only 4 people eliminated by not showing up to their elimination and it all happening early in the game including 1 quitter.  The format is probably the better of the 2 Gauntlet formats used with anyone able to go against anyone in the Gauntlet, with even winning team members not safe from elimination (1 from winning team and 3 from losing team).  The season long twist of Secret Partners helped lead to one of the most memorable moments in the history of the RSF Franchise as it culminated in Round 8 with 3 of the secret pairs being voted in against each other (initially the 2 matchups had 2 pairs earning safety then 1 of them inadvertently chose another pair and granted them safety) leading to one of the most chaotic vote reveals in the history of the game.  The season culminated in an underdog team of 3 Rookies against a stacked team of 6 Veterans in an intense Final building up to the last checkpoint where the Rookies pulled out an upset victory to all claim their 1st RSF Championship.  All around this was one of the strongest casts and stronger seasons not only in the 3rd Generation but throughout the franchise and helped remind me why I love to host these games.

3. Big Brother: The Mystery Room - See Gen 1 finished blog (Seasons 1-20) linked above

4. The Castle - See Gen 1 finished blog (Seasons 1-20) linked above

5. Redneck Island - This season was probably one of the best pair seasons to date in part due to the great format of Redneck Island and in part due to a competitive cast.  Out of the 24 players, 20 were RSF Veterans and 4 Rookies which led to some highly competitive rounds with some Rookies such as FrenchMaid and Logie56 really stepping up against many veterans.  Out of the 9 rounds before the Finals, 7 resulted in 1 member of each pair winning their matchup leading to new pairs forming.  This change in partners almost every round led to much fluidity throughout the season.  In addition, there was great competition with many teams winning throughout then strong individual performances in the Elimination.  Ultimately out of the 6 Finalists, 5 were former RSF Champions yet the winning team was one who dominated in the later rounds and included the only Rookie in the Final.  Overall, was a highly competitive season with some good strategy with the ever changing pairs that led to probably one of the best pair seasons.

6. Survivor Worldwide - See Gen 1 finished blog (Seasons 1-20) linked above

*ADDED ENTRY* - 7. Are You The One? - This season was a crossover with the Turney Time Reality Series (TTRS) and it was a very strong season.  The season saw a strong alliance form that really helped control the Truth Booth to gain information.  The competitiveness from players to earn points gave strong competition throughout the season until the very end with the final Getaway Challenge essentially determining the final placements.  The matchmaking process was arduous and interesting and despite the cast essentially figuring out the matches at the halfway point, the structure of the game led to some great strategy from players to position themselves as well as drama which was not as expected.  The highlight of the season was the unpredictability in terms of The Choice which saw every possible scenario occur with Double Shares, Double Steals and some shocking Steal/Shares that rocked the game taking out strong players.  Overall, the season was unpredictable and led to a different type of strategy required in terms of trying to figure out/earn points and the maneuvering of the Matchups and The Choice with the only possible format change likely needing to be less Truth Booths.

8. The Inferno - See Gen 2 finished blog (Seasons 21-30) linked above

9. The Duel 2 - The Duel 2 had arguably one of, if not the strongest cast in the history of the RSF Franchise and that loomed largely over the season.  The challenges were highly competitive leading to strong performances throughout the season.  In addition, there were strong rookie performances in the season with half of the Final 4 being Rookies to the RSF Franchise.  The only reason this season drops is due to the elimination randomizer.  5 games were initially planned for the season with a randomizer selecting which 2 to play and 1 game went unplayed all season long and 16 of the 22 Duels of the season were 1 of 2 games that were played.  If the eliminations were more varied this would easily be  a Top 3 season.

10. Rise of the Underdogs - The 2nd ever RSF Invite Only season was one of the top seasons in the RSF Franchise.  With a cast full of players who had yet to claim the RSF title saw the return of some OG RSF Veterans as well as some of the newer faces fighting for that victory.  The format really helped push forward the strongest competition with the only way moving forward being to win a challenge or elimination.  In addition with the season long Leaderbaord looming over the season and its effect later on, it really brought out strong competition throughout the season with only 3 eliminations of 21 being due to inactive Fortresses.  The season also brought out strong twists in the Path of Temptation and the Auction for the spot in the Finals which led to some strong moments.  The ever-changing gameplay throughout the phases really forced players to adapt their gameplay which led to a strong finish including what is so far the best game of Quoridor in the RSF Franchise (as the penultimate elimination of the season) and a highly competitive Final Challenge between the 4 Finalists who all fought their hardest.  Overall, this season really let some new faces and some old ones in the RSF Franchise shine and was a great format as well as season to watch and host.

17. Cutthroat - See Gen 1 finished blog (Seasons 1-20) linked above

18. Solitary 2.0 - The 2nd iteration of Solitary in the RSF Franchise improved upon some format issues from the initial adaptation.  With tests now being mandatory and having consequences for not completing it led to more active competition between players in both tests and treatments.  The season also incorporated a much larger variety of challenges which really tested the players like never before in previous seasons.  Overall, there was good competition with the Top 3 being some of the strongest throughout the competition with the Finals being an established RSF Vet against an RSF Rookie in a close battle.  This season was challenging from start to finish being one of the longest seasons that saw great comebacks and strong competition.

19. Battle of the Seasons - See Gen 1 finished blog (Seasons 1-20) linked above

20. Big Brother: The Mystery Room 2 - See Gen 1 finished blog (Seasons 1-20) linked above

21. Cutthroat 2 - See Gen 2 finished blog (Seasons 21-30) linked above

22. Solitary - See Gen 2 finished blog (Seasons 21-30) linked above

23. Battle of the Seasons 2 - During the application process this season there was some worry as the cast came together as 24 as opposed to the 32 which was wanted but when the season began it proved to be a good one.  For the early to mid game there were very clearly 2 sides going at each other throughout most of the season.  Eventually Team Castle would come out on top DOMINATING in the late game with the 1 round they were vulnerable having their safety come due to a strong bond between former RSF Champions who won together keeping them strong.  The season drops mainly for one team being inactive in a 3 team final which made the Final format much easier than initially anticipated and for some inactivity/unnecessary drama leading to DQs and not as much effort from certain players.

24. Bachelor Pad - This season was a strong season for the eventual winners but from an outward scope a generally predictable season that had its moments.  When the season started, there were 2 very clear sides in Halloween and his alliance and a group of people against them with few players riding the middle between the 2 sides, such as the eventual winners.  The revenge twist where voted out players eliminate another person was a strong format inclusion that ultimately led to the downfall of Halloween's alliance.  Once Halloween was eliminated, his alliance fell 1 by 1 with some choosing to bow out by volunteering to be eliminated and then taking each other out which led to a predictable pre-partner phase.  The partner formation was not as exciting as production hoped as one player went inactive and was the easy out.  From the partner phase onwards the eventual winning pair steamrolled the competition in terms of challenges and votes by taking out the biggest threats to finish the game in strong fashion before ultimately sharing with each other the title.  Overall, it was a dominating performance from the winners but overall a predictable season due to their strong social and physical games.  In addition in what was advertised as a social game held true throughout but ultimately with the winners earning safety throughout was in part a strong physical game than expected.

25. The Genius - After a long hiatus and the seeming end to the RSF Franchise, the series was revived with Generation 3 and this format was a big reason why.  Coming into the season there were high hopes with the format of the game.  In some ways the season delivered and in others it did not.  Early on activity was not the best with a key group taking control of the game due to others being inactive and some early boots simply falling by the wayside.  The mid-game is really when the game stepped up and sides started to form within the major alliance and some of the Death Matches were hotly contested.  From Final 7 to 5 there were some good matches with back and forth between pairs and some exciting Death Matches.  However, this season's biggest moment was at the Final 4 when the original alliance of 4 was split in 2 pairs and after a long running Main Match with 4 guests, things got so heated it led to one of the strongest competitors on the season being disqualified due to offensive language.  The season required a break as production needed a breather after the drama but coming back from it the season ended very strongly with a good Top 3 and a finale containing 2 opposites: the player who won the most Main Matches and never faced a Death Match and a player who never won a Main Match but won the most Death Matches.  The Finale came down to a 2-1 score with splozojames50 starting his strong Gen 3 run.  Overall, the season had a weak start but got stronger as the season went on and despite the controversy at the Final 4 was a good season.

30. The Castle 2 - The return to the original RSF Season produced what I would consider to be an average RSF Season.  Throughout the season thanks to the format of the game, there was never a dominant force in the challenges with many different people winning eliminations and challenges.  The game had a strong alliance consisting of different people that stayed safe due to challenge performance leading to several players having to face several eliminations before they were defeated.  The game saw the Final Four players never face a single elimination until the Gauntlet occurred at Final 6 due to their strong challenge performance and their placement/involvement with this main alliance.  Overall, there wasn't any standout moments that raises the season above average but it was active enough and had decent enough competition to drop it.  This season ended in the 3rd win out of the 5 seasons of Gen 3 at that point for splozojames50 to cap off a strong run.

39. American Grit - This season was one of the toughest season to cast due to low interest in what I believe to be an underrated format.  This was the longest time applications have been open to get the minimum of 16 people with a special reward needed to incentivize players.  During the season due to the lower general apps needed activity was a disappointment with only 3 of the 11 eliminated players going out actually trying.  It does gain some points for having a close Final between 2 teams, Gray and Green.  But overall, it was a disappointing season for an underrated format.
