Survivor S40 Power Rankings (Top 10 + 9 EoE)

Apr 14, 2020 by PowerRankings101
imageAdam is one of the most admirable players of recent memory. He was kind of a train wreck all season, but I have to applaud him for never giving up, and trying some game changing approaches. If that podium really had an idol at tribal (seems like something they might actually do, hiding an idol at tribal), then Adam is an all-time great. The jury may have been laughing, but I bet some of them were kicking themselves for not thinking of that first. In the end, Adam left, Sarah and Denise were on the outs of the vote, and we saw Kim win immunity (breaking a record for women winning individual immunities—between this season and her last, she has won 5). It’s going to be an interesting episode. We have the loved ones visit, and this is the last week Jeremy can play his “safety without power.” Expect some fireworks this week.

10. Sarah Lacina- Sarah looks safe in retrospect, with Tony and Sophie in two of her corners. The problem however, is that the preview alluded to Kim and others wanting to target the Sophie/Sarah duo, which could be a bit dangerous. Sophie has an idol, Sarah does not. Sarah has a “steal a vote,” but it’s much less impactful if the votes aren’t evenly split enough. I also think giving Nick the reward last week, while probably harmless in her mind, may have painted a bigger target on Sarah’s back than necessary. I just think there’s too much working against Sarah going into this episode. She’s been targeted in the past, this past week by Nick, a few weeks ago by Rob…. I want to keep her from this bottom spot, but I just worry that this past episode was foreshadowing a potential downfall for Sarah’s game, and the fact that she doesn’t have immunity (only the vote steal) makes her one of the more vulnerable threats left.

9. Tyson Apostol- Tyson has been laying super low, but has still made a huge impact, throwing out Adam’s name, and creating chaos silently. My only worry for Tyson in this episode is that, should Jeremy using his safety advantage, Tyson could end up being a back-up plan. He’s already been voted out before, he’s accomplished his goal of making it to the family visit, and he’s got tons of friends on the jury. Tyson should be targeted much more than he is, but this week, I could see his name being thrown around a lot.

8. Nick Wilson- Poor Nick seems to be the new man on the complete outs. Even Michele, who he seems aligned with, is likely to flip with the majority than stick with Nick. The good news for Nick is that he may be too obvious of an outsider, and I could definitely see people trying to lull him in as a number rather than an immediate target. I just worry that Nick could go out in the same fashion as Adam, by simply having few allies left, and being a bit more confrontational to the bigger threats. Nick is facing an uphill climb, and this week should confirm whether or not he can work his way back up, or quickly crumble. The fact that he’s so far on the outs makes me think he won’t go home this week. It’s just too obvious.

7. Denise Stapley- Denise was a BIG target come merge, but last week, she seemed to get little to no attention, and managed to escape tribal without her name being mentioned once. The problem for Denise is, she’s always got that big Sandra move hovering over her like a gray raincloud. Nobody can ignore it, and it consistently makes her a bigger threat than she necessarily should be this early in the merge. Another thing going against Denise is that her alliance with Adam is now gone, so she’s potentially flying solo with only Jeremy as one of her true bonds that we know of out there.

6. Michele Fitzgerald- Michele spent ALL of her fire tokens on a 50/50 coin flip. Judging from last season, I’m not a true fan of coin flips, as Dean was able to get a 50/50 coin flip and win an idol nullifier with it. He used that idol nullifier to get out my favorite, SUPER MOM Janet. So you could say, I’m not a big fan of this 50/50 coin flip twist. And because it’s a 50/50 chance at safety, I’m putting Michele right smack dab in the middle of the rankings.

5. Ben Driebergen- Ben going after Adam in tribal council seemed personal, but the more I think about it, Ben was doing his group of “lions” a big favor. He was trying to distract Adam and prevent Adam from talking with the rest of the group during tribal council. Adam could’ve convinced some people to join him in voting for Nick, but Ben getting into an argument with Adam prevented him from doing so. I didn’t like how Ben was arguing with Adam so much, but in retrospect, I can see how it made a distraction for the rest of the group to discuss the plan during tribal. I think it’s honestly a smart move, and I think it only shows  more of Ben’s loyalty to his alliance, and at this point, loyalty is important. Good for Ben.

4. Tony Vlachos- How is Tony this high on the list with no advantages? Because he’s absolutely killing it in the game. He’s the biggest lion out there, but he’s picking off these “hyenas,” and keeping himself shielded by other big threats in Jeremy, Tyson, Kim, Ben, and Sarah. He is just playing every single decision and conversation right. I love the game Tony is playing right now. It’s not flashy like his first two seasons, but it’s prominent enough to garner a serious case to win should he make it to final three. The theme of “lions and hyenas” has been the focus of lots of the past two episodes, and if this strategy keeps up, Tony can say it was his idea. Major jury points. The cop is crushing it.

3. Sophie Clarke- I was on board with Sophie being the dominant front-runner…until this week. Her edit took a big dip, as she was barely shown in many conversations or any confessionals, and the preview shows that people are ready to split up Sarah and Sophie. She has an idol, which keeps her in this top three, and makes Sarah way more vulnerable than her, but going forward in this game, I worry that Sophie’s under-the-radar game may be exposed. Her alliance members Wendell and Yul were voted out, and it seems like she’s not considered one of the “lions” along with Tony, Jeremy, Tyson, Kim, etc. I still think there’s a good chance Sophie can continue running the show, but this is probably the least confident I’ve been in Sophie actually WINNING the game this whole season. Things could change if she has a really successful episode, however.

2. Kim Spradlin-Wolfe- Kim looks like she’s ready to make a big move (FINALLY! This is the Kim I’ve been waiting for), and she has an idol as ammunition to do it. Kim, like Tony, should be getting a lot more attention as a threat, but has seemingly flown under the radar. From the edit standpoint, I don’t know how Kim’s chances to win it all are, but I do think she has some potential to heat up her game and make some cool moves in the next few weeks.

1. Jeremy Collins- Jeremy has his “safety without power,” where he can leave tribal council with immunity right before voting. This is the last week he can play it, and he’d be stupid not to. He’s a huge threat, and most people know it. I was impressed how he was able to escape last week with zero mention of being a target himself, and that is why I think Jeremy could end up winning it all again.

Sophie was my front-runner, but right now, I think lots of the “lions” like Tony or Jeremy could make a case for the win as well. With a game that is ever changing, there are lots of great cases to win. Right now, Nick is on the outs, but because of how much Sarah’s “chinese food reward” was portrayed as a negative move last week, I can’t help but think that Sarah is in more danger than she realizes. She has Tony on her side, but Tony is only one person. Kim has an idol, and could do some damage, as could Michele with her coin flip, and Jeremy with his “safety without power.” Then there are wildcards like Denise or Tyson, who could get hit by a stray bullet or PLAN B move. I really don’t know what’s going to happen, and think it’s going to be a wild episode because of it.

PREDICTIONS:

Going Home- Sarah Lacina

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And now for the EXTINCTION ISLAND rankings:

9. Amber Mariano- Amber didn’t really have much of a showcase in the last episode, so she’ll stay here at the bottom for now.

8. Ethan Zohn- Ethan also had a minimal episode, so I will keep him lower too.

7. Adam Klein- Adam probably can’t win a challenge against big dogs like Rob or Natalie or Yul. But I do appreciate Adam’s enthusiasm for the game, and will enjoy watching him fawn over all his favorite players.

6. Wendell Holland- Wendell is probably the most physically promising contestant to win a challenge on Edge, but Natalie made it a point to not include Wendell on a lot of the fire token hunting, and sent him on his own path alone. Wendell is on the outs of a bunch of Old Schoolers, but having Adam there may help him.

5. Yul Kwon- Yul hasn’t been given a ton of content, but I still think his chances of returning aren’t impossible. I really wish we could’ve seen more of Yul this season.

4. Rob Mariano- Rob didn’t hog all of the screen time this past episode! This is good progress. I hope Rob and Amber get to see their kids this week for the family visits, and since it’s a winners season, I think the people on Edge will be able to! It’ll be nice to see a softer side to Rob than the competitive one we’ve watched all season.

3. Natalie Anderson- Natalie sending Wendell off to look for fire tokens alone was smart. It’s clear that Natalie and the Old Schoolers are ganging up on the newer vote-outs like Wendell and probably soon Adam. Is Natalie going to win a challenge to return? I think she’s got a real shot. I just have her ranked third because two of the people on Edge made a much bigger move that is worth rewarding high on the list.

2. Danni Boatwright- Danni figured out a big clue, and showed her Survivor knowledge, knowing to look at the stairs Aubry climbed a few seasons ago. It was an amazing pull, and I think she earns a spot higher in this ranking because of it. Way to go Danni!

1. Parvati Shallow- Parvati didn’t just find the advantage with Danni, but was able to get FOUR fire tokens from Michele for it. It’ll be interesting to see if Parvati splits the tokens amongst other Old Schoolers, or if she takes them all for herself. It wouldn’t surprise me if the softer motherly Parvati spreads the wealth…but oh what a joy it would be if the villain Parvati took all of the tokens for herself. One can dream. My favorite player of all time made a good move, got four tokens, and earns the top spot for me.

PREDICTIONS:

Quitting- None

Staying on Extinction Island- Natalie, Amber, Danni, Ethan, Rob, Parvati, Yul, Wendell, and Adam
