imageWhat an amazing merge episode: Tyson returning from extinction, Nick sneaking up on every conversation, Denise and Jeremy winning immunity, all the “big threats” coming together, Adam being the decoy target, Wendell going home, Michele getting ANOTHER fire token. It’s starting to truly heat up, and I can’t wait to see what happens next week. Let’s go.

11. Nick Wilson- Oh Nick. Nick got a really weird edit on this episode, as he had the funny bit of him sneaking up on people, but nobody seemed to talk about Nick in a positive light. Now that his best ally is gone, and he and Michele were the only ones out of the vote, I worry that he is going to have an uphill battle to climb. Sure, the preview usually never eludes to the actual boot, but I just have trouble imagining Nick fully recovering from this. His time is ticking, and I just don’t think he’s playing the social game needed to insert himself into some of these bigger alliances.

10. Denise Stapley- Denise won that immunity challenge and did freaking amazing in it. My worry, however, is that the merge feast consisted primarily on Denise’s big move against Sandra. The fact that people are still talking about it weeks later, I’m worried that Denise is just going to be a huge target until she is sent home. She is a big threat because of that big move, and while I think there are certainly bigger threats, I feel like lots of people want to get her out as soon as possible. Of course, Denise could win immunity again, which keeps her from the bottom spot, but she was most likely going to be voted out until she won immunity, so I feel like her back is up against the wall.

9. Adam Klein- Adam is always in a lot of danger, but I feel like this week showed that more people have his back that I thought. We saw Denise willing to flip on him…but she never did. Ben was against working with Adam…but he voted with him. Sophie apparently didn’t trust Adam after the idol hunt fiasco…but she’s the one who ensured him that he was safe. I feel like Adam is everyone’s little brother, and eventually, Adam’s life in the game is gonna run out, but right now, he’s a great person to keep around as a backup plan. The problem with being a backup plan is that, should idols be played or Jeremy use his “safety without power” advantage, Adam could get the next highest amount of votes and be sent home. Adam was in the majority tonight and gave a great confessional when voting out Wendell, so I’m glad he’s still around, even if he’s still on the outs.

8. Michele Fitzgerald- Michele was one of the two people who voted for Adam, not Wendell. She also got zero content in this merge episode. I think she was such a big player in the pre-merge that I worry that now, her edit is fizzling out, and she could be going home in the next few episodes. She needs to have a really solid episode this week in order to jump back onto my radar. The thing keeping her above Nick, Denise, and Adam is the fact that she has so many fire tokens and may be able to turn the game upside down with them.

7. Sarah Lacina- Sarah should be safe, as she has lots of friends and is in a seemingly good position right now, but in the preview, it showed Nick going after Sarah. Sarah clearly has more ammunition than Nick, but the fact that Sarah’s name is being thrown around puts her below the others.

6. Tyson Apostol- Tyson is in a surprisingly amazing spot right now. He came back and completely minimized his target. He is now a number for people, and is not playing as hard as he did before he was voted off the first time. I worry that as time goes on, Tyson is going to become a backup plan, but right now, I don’t see why you’d take out the odd man out.

5. Tony Vlachos- Tony has not received a vote all season, and is inarguably the biggest threat out there. Tony was smart in aligning with the bigger threats: Ben, Jeremy, Tyson. I feel like Tony is flying under the radar enough to not be in consideration to be voted out, and I love the position Tony is in right now. Because of the intense gameplay this season, people like Denise and Nick are emerging as bigger targets for everyone else, and it keeps Tony out of the limelight. He also has that alliance with Sarah (Cops R Us) that could come into play a lot later down the line. Well done Tony. We haven’t seen him in the merge since season 28, and I’m so glad we get to see him play this solo game again. I hope he keeps it up.

4. Jeremy Collins- Jeremy may be in a bit of danger going forward because people are catching onto how hard Jeremy is playing, but do think Jeremy is okay for this specific episode. He has his advantage that lets him leave tribal council, and he has an ability to win an immunity challenge. The thing I admire about Jeremy is that he still voted Wendell out at the end of the day, knowing his plan to keep Wendell around didn’t work. He was able to evaluate the situation, recognize that his plan wasn’t working, and just go with the majority. If Jeremy keeps this up, he could be okay. He needs to lay low now, as his threat level is pretty big, but the fact that he voted correctly at the end of the day makes me feel a bit better about his game right now.

3. Ben Driebergen- Ben is surprisingly very safe right now. He’s in this “big threat” alliance—probably because of his idol hunting in his previous season—but he’s probably the least threatening of those people. He’s goofy, which works well for his social game, and he seems to have friends in Jeremy, Sophie, Sarah, and even Tony. I just think Ben is in a really good spot where he can go wherever the majority is, and never seem like he’s running the show. I think he’s in a great spot.

2. Kim Spradlin-Wolfe- Kim has an idol, and seems to be on nobody’s radar. This unfortunately doesn’t fare too well for her edit, as she has been the most minimally edited person this season (not including Edge). I do expect Kim’s edit to heat up eventually, but right now, she’s riding below the radar, and gets a high spot on this list for not being a huge threat.

1. Sophie Clarke- Sophie was certainly the MVP of this episode. She was the one who flipped the vote from Nick to Wendell, and was able to correctly sum up the entirety of the tribe dynamics in one sentence. She saw that Jeremy was trying to keep Wendell around, and she used that to go after Wendell. She has Sophie in her back pocket, she’ll likely have outsiders like Adam and Nick wanting to work with her. I just don’t see how Sophie is in any danger this episode. She has an idol, and is in complete control of the game, without standing out as a threat at ALL. She’s doing the absolute best right now, and if she keeps this up, I don’t see anyone stopping her.

The under the radar players like Sophie and Kim should be able to continue coasting pretty well, and the big threats like Tony, Ben, Tyson, Sarah, and Jeremy seem to be sticking together and creating a strong force to be reckoned with. I worry for the people that are making moves, but not one of the top dogs—Denise, Adam, Michele, Nick. These are the players that I worry will be targeted, similarly to Wendell, and if I had to make a safe pick, I think Nick is furthest on the outs.

PREDICTIONS:

Going Home- Nick Wilson

And now for the EXTINCTION ISLAND rankings:

8. Amber Mariano- Amber giving Rob her fire tokens confirms that Amber is trying to help Rob rather than help herself. It’s fine, because she probably knows Rob has a better shot to win the challenge, but I wish Amber could come back by herself someday and show her own gameplay. Oh well, probably won’t happen.

7. Ethan Zohn- Ethan wasn’t one of the top contenders in the challenge, so I think the rest of the story of the season for him is going to be his arc on Extinction Island, and him overcoming the hardships of that. Probably won’t win a challenge though.

6. Parvati Shallow- Parvati wasn’t able to get an advantage for the challenge, and didn’t seem to have a chance in it. It’s a shame, because I love Parv, but Parv has always been more of an endurance threat than agility one, so I don’t know if she’s going to be one of the top people to return into the game. Still my favorite player of all time though.

5. Wendell Holland- Wendell is good in challenges, which is good for the Edge. Unfortunately, he was portrayed as more of a villain this season, and isn’t as big a villain as Rob. I think his chances are low to return, unless we see a big peak in some positive content on Edge of Extinction.

4. Danni Boatwright- Danni surprisingly got some content and visibility in the episode, and was right in it for the challenge. She may be a dark horse returnee. I don’t think it’ll happen, but I think she proved that she’s probably more likely to return eventually than people like Ethan, Parv, and Amber, who have gotten a bit more content than her.

3. Natalie Anderson- Natalie is the strongest girl out there, but her fire tokens didn’t really come into play the way we expected them too. It’s a shame, because I love Natalie and want to see her get the chance to play, but she’s going to need a challenge she can truly dominate in order to get back next time. I still have some faith for her.

2. Yul Kwon- Yul didn’t have an advantage in the challenge because he was JUST voted out (seems a bit weird that those who were voted out earlier had advantages over those who lasted longer in the game….??), but had he been able to have an advantage, Yul couldn’t really won the challenge. He was right behind Boston Rob and Tyson. I think, if Yul can get some fire tokens and stock up on his revenue, he could be a serious threat to return.

1. Rob Mariano- Rob was SO close to winning the challenge, and couldn’t do it. Rob’s still got it, and still dominant in challenges all these years later. Gotta give him the top spot for respect.

PREDICTIONS:

Quitting- None

Staying on Extinction Island- Natalie, Amber, Danni, Ethan, Rob, Parvati, Yul, and Wendell
