The Finals happened. Hannah won, the only person not to be in the bottom 2, as I predicted. I would’ve loved to see Kel win for his ability or Lauren to win for her improvement. Ally even got the high score. But Hannah pulled through because of America’s vote, so here we are. Here are the ranked 1st Dances and Freestyles of each couple in the finale.
8. Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten (1st Dance)- I almost feel embarrassed putting Hannah, the winner of the season, in the bottom. But her freestyle will make up slightly for this. This dance was good, but I think it had a spark and freshness the first time we saw it, and this didn’t seem to rise above the past time she did it. It was great, but didn’t show a vast improvement. I like Hannah, but think she could’ve done better with her first song.
7. Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber (1st Dance)- I’ve been pretty tough on Ally, but this wasn’t worth three 10s. I really think Ally’s energy deserves all the 10s in the world, but her actual footwork and ability to show off technique slips away with the faster routines. Sorry, but Ally wasn’t my favorite going into the finale, and certainly not afterward.
6. Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber (2nd Dance)- Her freestyle was fine, but not as good as the others. It was a little out of control, as I said with her prior dance. That’s it, I think Ally’s scores reflect something that the judges saw that I didn’t. But I’m happy for her coming out of her shell this season.
5. Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko (1st Dance)- Lauren’s first dance was so good, and a perfect example of Lauren at her most refined and professional. It was absolutely elegant and it’s a shame that it didn’t get any 10s, even if it wasn’t the greatest in round one.
4. Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko (2nd Dance)- Lauren’s freestyle was her first 10s of the season, but rightfully so. This routine was great and showed off everything she is, not just the sophistication like before, but a fun energy and prowess in technique. I loved it.
3. Kel Mitchell and Witney Carson (1st Dance)- The High School Musical dance is BACK. You all know how much of a fan of this dance I am. It was terrific. Next.
2. Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten (2nd Dance)- Hannah’s freestyle was pretty awesome, I will admit. She is absolutely showing all her fierce dancing, and the choreography only elevated her larger than life personality. She’s a pageant girl, but she finally committed these past few weeks, and this was her best dance of the season, I think.
1. Kel Mitchell and Witney Carson (2nd Dance)- My personal favorite of the season (in the finale, at least), was Kel, because he wasn’t afraid to go full out and stick to what he knew he was good at. I think the 9 was a petty score, because he danced in his comfort zone. He danced in his comfort zone because it was freaking awesome. And if you don’t like the style Witney gave, don’t take it out on Kel’s dancing alone. Ugh. Anyways, this routine was awesome and the best of the night, so Kel is the man of the night in my opinion.
