America's Got Talent S14 Power Rankings (Semifinals, Week 2)

Sep 11, 2019 by PowerRankings101
imageI have good news. This semifinal, while flawed in some spots, was much better than the last. Even the bad acts had merits, and though I have a certain amount of personal favorites, I could still see almost all of these acts having a case of making it through. Let’s rank (it’s difficult honestly).

11. Dom Chambers- This was the worst of the night, in my opinion. I was so high on Chambers’ last performance, and I think he definitely has the showmanship, as he does with all his acts. This act just felt very thrown together last minute (though getting a giant beer definitely showed the production value and lengths AGT will go to pull off an act). I just feel like the actual disappearance was underwhelming, and I was just expecting so much more. The number guessing has been seen so many times before, and I just can’t say the showmanship made up for how lackluster the magic itself was. Nothing will top his audition.

10. Lukas & Falco- Poor Falco just couldn’t seem to get his head in the right place before the act. However, there’s just such a charm that the two of them have, and while the tricks were underwhelming, the most beautiful moments were definitely the ones where Lukas stopped to kiss Falco and tell him it was alright. The relationship and love between the two are the reason why I think America could throw them a bone (get it?). They don’t deserve to go further, but I definitely didn’t dislike the act as much as I should have.

9. Ryan Niemiller- I’ll admit, this was the biggest disappointment of the night for me. His jokes just didn’t land for me this time around, and this is the tough thing about being a comedian. It just failed to find a groove to me. But the judges loved it, so I think he could still find his way into America’s voting choices. I love Ryan as a comedian and would love to see him get a shot in the finale to show what he really has. This was his weakest to me, but I do think he’s good enough to carry through on momentum and past performances (all which I’ve adored).

8. Chris Klafford- I think Chris’ annunciation should have been stronger, but I didn’t mind the song itself. I actually really liked it, and thought it was a good song (sorry Howie). I don’t think the vocal or memorability of the song was enough to keep him in my mind by the end of the episode, but I think this was a step up from the past.

7. Voices of Service- I like the harmonies and passion from them all, but something about their act just doesn’t feel as impactful or powerful as the other groups and vocalists tonight. I just couldn’t get fully on board with it. Maybe it’s because they were last, so there was so much to compete with prior to them. I’ve always liked them, but think there were stronger acts.

6. Detroit Youth Choir- I love these guys, and think they always bring the fun and energy needed to get me smiling. The only thing is, I think their competition in the other Youth Choir knocked it out of the park last week, and the DYC had to compete with a big group in V. Unbeatable, lots of singing acts, and ANOTHER singing group in Voices of Service. While I think they did better than VOS, I still think voters will remember the VOS over this group at the end of the night (performance order matters sometimes). So I think, with all the competition they have, I honestly don’t think they’ll get the votes they need.

5. Marcin Patrzalek- Marcin has been one of my favorite acts this whole time. I think the band detracted from some of his magic, but I absolutely love his act and think he did a great job delivering something familiar to audiences and showing off his amazing talent once again. He almost didn’t make it through last round, so I’m worried he could get the short end of the stick this time, but if he goes out, he certainly went out on a high note. I hope he gets a shot in the finale.

4. Emanne Beasha- Emanne is absolutely talented, and while each and every performance is consistently great, she finds a way to still feel fresh and vibrant and beautiful. I love her, and think her chances of making it are huge.

3. Luke Islam- I absolutely love Luke, and I think that this week, he kicked it up an even higher notch. Why he isn’t getting the same attention as the other children in the competition like Kodi, Tyler, Emanne, and the Light Balance Kids doesn’t make sense to me, because he may be the most naturally talented of the bunch. He has a confidence, but also a sweetness, and I thought it was honestly the best vocal of the night. I hope America doesn’t leave him behind on the voting.

2. V. Unbeatable- Starting off the night strong, one of my favorite acts definitely delivered again. The rotating ladders were so incredible to see, and I honestly think they make it look so effortless, sometimes it doesn’t seem as impressive as it actually is. It is the most impressive thing, and in a competition with so many big groups, choirs, dancers, etc, V. Unbeatable sounds like the most likely to be…well, unbeatable.

1. Alex Dowis- High and above my favorite act of the night. Tears rolling down my face, I couldn’t believe just how amazing this was. Storytelling was so high, but the visual lived up to the story as well. Relevant to this week and 9/11, but also just a thank you to those firefighters who serve our country every day and risk their lives to save others. I just found the whole thing to be incredibly inspiring and jaw-droppingly dazzlingly in spectacle.

The clear two going through have to be V. Unbeatable and Emanne, based on overall audience response, momentum, and judge comments. I think the next spot could go to Alex for the message, or Voices of Service based on the order they performed. I’m gonna say VOS. I think Alex finds his way into the Dunkin’ Save with Ryan (who has the momentum from the past) and Luke, who I believe has more support than one would expect. I think Alex makes it through, and then the judges put Ryan forward. Marcin or DYC could sneak in there over Luke, but either way, I think Ryan goes onto the final.

PREDICTIONS:

Going Through- V. Unbeatable, Emanne Beasha, Voices of Service, Alex Dowis, and Ryan Niemiller

Going Home- Luke Islam, Lukas & Falco, Detroit Youth Choir, Marcin Patrzalek, Chris Klafford, Dom Chambers
