America's Got Talent S14 Power Rankings (Quarterfinals, Week 3)

Aug 30, 2019 by PowerRankings101
imageI definitely think this group was the best on paper of all 3 Quarterfinals groups. Unfortunately, they probably underwhelmed the most of all groups. While last week only had 6 solid acts, this week had about 5. I think the Quarterfinals were strongest in the first episode, with tons of good acts, and I hope the Semifinals bring it even more. Although it wasn’t a great night, it wasn’t the worst night… so let’s rank these acts.

12. Gonzo- Never found him funny, still don’t. I don’t wanna waste many words on him. Instead, I’ll list the acts that went home in the Judge Cuts that deserved this spot over Gonzo (in order performed): The Orange Magician, Dylan Gilmer, Lamont Landers, Izzy and Easton, Patrizio Ratto, Stephanie’s Child, Dominguez Poodles, Ben Trigger, Jordan Ravi. So many names. Shame.

11. MacKenzie- I was never the biggest fan of his, but he REALLY took a big L this week. I thought this was his worst vocal, and maybe one of the worst vocals of the live shows thus far. I was surprised at how rough it was, and I can only wish him the best. I think this is a sure-fire lock to get sent home.

10. Lukas & Falco- I love dog acts, but this was a tad underwhelming. Falco is so cute, but their tricks really aren’t that impressive, so I don’t know how they’ll stack with the entire group. By the end of the night, I sort of forgot about them, and I fear America will do the same.

9. Matthew Richardson- Matthew actually has beauty and grace when he performs, and I think his act did not deserve a buzzer. I think he definitely got a bit boring by the end of the act, but I can’t deny the talent and thought it was better than I expected. Still not enough to crack the top of the list, or even close to it.

8. Berywam- Their talent is undeniable, but choosing to do more singing than before may have hurt their act. I wasn’t a fan of their performance this time. Luckily, in such a weak night, they may actually have a shot of advancing, but I think Simon said it best. They’re hit or miss and I think America is going to be split too. Maybe a Dunkin’ Save. The beatboxing was good, the rest was not.

7. Eric Chien- Eric had a good solid trick in some ways. A few flubs happened, and he didn’t seem to have the showmanship needed to pull it off. I’ll say it later with Dom, but basically, Eric did a better trick and performed it poorly. This is what separates the two, and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he’s sent home because of it. Luckily, there are five worse acts than him, but I really don’t think he’s a lock to move forward, especially given how strong Dom was.

6. Jackie Fabulous- Jackie was fine, but I don’t really think she comes close to Ryan Neimiller’s comedy (the other comedian of the season) or Greg Morton’s impressionist comedy. I think Jackie is good in her own right, but I was a bit underwhelmed knowing how strong she has been in the past.

5. Detroit Youth Choir- I really love this choir. Coming off of last week, I thought that Ndlovu was good, but not my favorite. This choir may be my favorite of all time. The passion, the heart, the determination. I am absolutely in love with them, and I hope they advance. I think going first may have hurt them a tad, so maybe a Dunkin’ Save is in their future, but I definitely think they’ll advance in some capacity, especially being stronger than the other choir in the competition.

4. Dom Chambers- Here’s the thing. Like I said before with Eric, sometimes the trick itself doesn’t need to be amazing if it’s pulled off well. Dom is the example of someone whose trick wasn’t THAT complicated to figure out or impressive, but he made it look amazing by the way he presented it. He outdid Eric, and while Eric’s trick was far better, Dom’s presentation and showmanship is what will sail him through to the semifinals, and deservedly so.

3. Benicio Bryant- Benicio’s talent is there, and it’s clear as day. I think the judges felt underwhelmed because Benicio didn’t go with a traditional scaled back ballad that showcased his pipes. But here’s the thing… the pipes are there no matter what. He sang a song that he could legitimately record and produce, and something that feels in tune with the current pop music scheme out there. I think Benicio did the PERFECT thing to appeal to voters, and still showcase his talent. One of the best of the night.

2. Emanne Beasha- It’s obvious that Emanne is one of the most talented people in this whole competition. She is so gracious, and humble, but most importantly, her voice is magnificent. She is so great, and could even win this whole thing. While she doesn’t have that unique one-of-a-kind nature that Marcin has, she is certainly a huge contender, and one of the best of an underwhelming night.

1. Marcin Patrzalek- Marcin is one of the most talented acts on the show period. He gets better and better with every performance, and while I was expecting him to kick it up a notch in his spectacle, he honestly didn’t need to. His music is infectious, and if he doesn’t make it to the next round, I may stop watching.

I can’t necessarily call Marcin my favorite of the season, but he’s dang up there. He’s a lock, as I think Emanne, Benicio, and Dom are too. As far as the fifth one advancing, I actually have Jackie, who I think did enough for other viewers. I think, while Dom will get more votes, Eric will end up in the judge’s save against the Detroit Choir and Berywam, the beatbox boys. I think America will overwhelmingly choose Detroit Choir, because I truly think they deserve to be there. Between Berywam and Eric, I think that the Judges will lean to the Beatboxing group. It’s original and they seemed to be fans of it.

PREDICTIONS:

Going Through- Marcin Patrzalek, Emanne Beasha, Benicio Bryant, Dom Chambers, Jackie Fabulous, Detroit Youth Choir, and Berywam

Going Home- Eric Chien, Lukas & Falco, Matthew Richardson, MacKenzie, and Gonzo
