Top Chef S16 Power Rankings (Top 11)

Restaurant Wars went exactly as I had expected, with Pablo being the weakest one, and Nini and Justin going toe to toe, with Nini going home. It’s a shame that we are only getting one returnee, because I think Nini shows a lot of promise, and Brother is an awesome All-Star that I’d love to see get another shot. Because of Nini’s recent performance, I guess I’m rooting for Brother to come back from Last Chance Kitchen, but either way, I’m happy with whoever returns and think they’ll do much better. Here’s how I’d rank the top 10 (11?).

11. Justin Sutherland- Justin took a major dip because of his Restaurant Wars performance. While I don’t know if this will necessarily keep him down, I think he is in big need of bouncing back from this. Justin showed a nasty side, but maybe under less stress, we’ll see him perform better. Right now, he’s got to be at the bottom spot, however.

10. Brandon Rosen- Out of everyone I disliked in the beginning, Brandon has been growing on me the most. But I still think he’s one of the more vulnerable chefs here, and that’s just because he struggles when not in a leadership position. Coming off of restaurant wars, I wonder if he’ll be able to keep up with the rest of the pack. Who knows?

9. Kelsey Barnard Clark- Kelsey is getting lots of good screen time, but she has been very hit or miss in her performances. Even in Restaurant Wars, she seemed to be in control of lots of things, and very cool and collected, but in execution, she definitely contributed to Nini’s chocolate dish being underwhelming, and was part of the sinking ship that was “Third Coast.”

8. Michelle Minori- Michelle cooked a beautiful pasta dish, but didn’t do an incredible job leading the pack. She luckily had immunity, which is why she was at the top spot last week, but I think she really needs to find her voice more if she wants to stand a chance working in a future team challenge. I do like her and hope she finds that voice.

7. Sara Bradley- Sara has been doing really well out there, and while I still don’t think her food is standing above the rest, she could still be safe for some time.

6. Last Chance Kitchen Returnee- The LCK returnee ends up right in the middle, because I think either could do extremely well or lose their steam. If it’s Brother, I think he’ll do great. If it’s Nini, I think she’ll also do well, but could take some time regaining her front runner status. We’ll see.

5. Brian Young- Brian had a really great night, and I think it’s what he needed to propel himself forward in the game as a true contender in this thing. Will he win? Probably not. But I think he stands a much better chance than he did before.

4. Eric Adjepong- Eric is always putting forth good food, but just doesn’t seem to be heavily featured in the edit. I’m not sure why, but I hope Eric can stand out more, especially given that the numbers are dwindling a bit more. I like Eric a lot and hope to see more of him, also given that he’s one of two people to never be on the bottom.

3. Adrienne Wright- Adrienne proved her worth this past episode. She came in and not only rocked it as Executive Chef, but she also put up two great dishes. She seemed to really lead her team to victory, and while Brian snagged the win and Eddie is probably more likable in the long-run, I think Adrienne was the magic that brought it all together, and will now be a favorite going forward. She’s certainly winning me over and becoming a great competitor.

2. David Viana- David was probably the strongest on a really bad team. He’s still the number one contender in my book, but because of how Nini and Natalie went after being such big contenders, I can’t keep him in the number one spot yet.

1. Eddie Konrad- Eddie’s food is always very impressive to me. And the best part of it is that he is humble as heck. He never likes to brag, boast, and when he or his team wins, he gets ecstatic and flabbergasted. It’s incredibly charming and lovely to see, and I think it’s making it really easy to root for Eddie. Right now, he’s one of the only people left who hasn’t been on the bottom once. I like Eddie, and I’m actually rooting for him next to David.

Justin and Kelsey seem to be the most beat down from Restaurant Wars, while Brandon’s track record puts him in jeopardy. We could be in for a shock, as always, but right now, I’ve got to ride on recent momentum and say Justin will be sent packing.
