Survivor S37 Power Rankings (Finals)

Dec 19, 2018 by PowerRankings101
imageI have to say, this is without a doubt one of my favorite seasons of Survivor in recent memory. An excellent cast, blindsides after blindsides, perfect balance of advantages, and a finale of six people who have all had different paths and many possibilities for a winner. The edit would point to a more obvious winner of either Davie or Nick, but because this season has been so well edited to give everyone screen time, it could really be anyone’s game (save for Angelina, but we’ll get there). This is the most excited I’ve been going into a finale in some time, but with that comes lots of analysis and predictions, so bear with me. Here we go.

6. Alison Raybould- Alison has had a target on her back several times this season, and has had a vote cast against her three tribals in a row. She’s obviously going to continue being on people’s radars. The ultimate reason I have her in sixth place based on two things: her edit and the relationships of others around her. Her edit has been smallest of anyone, and she hasn’t really been portrayed as a hero or a villain, just a neutral player who is likable enough but not a front-runner to root for. With the relationships, this is where Alison really struggles. Nick and Mike have been tight before, Mike and Angelina are tight, Davie and Kara are tight, and Davie and Nick are bonded by the fact that they are the last Davids left. Alison is the only person who isn’t really in a tight pair with anyone, so this leaves her as an easy boot if the rest of the five decide to stick together. We’ve seen Angelina, Mike, Nick, and Davie make a final four, and Davie said he was very close with Kara. Alison is totally on the outs, and I can’t imagine her making it all the way to the end because of this.

5. Davie Rickenbacker- I really hope Davie can win this whole thing because he is undisputedly my favorite contestant of the season. My only worry for Davie is this: he’s found idols, he’s won immunities, he’s a threat. I think it will end up being Kara and Davie vs. Mike and Angelina with Nick in the middle, and Nick will probably see Davie as a bigger threat at the end of the day, especially since Mike got into Nick’s ear about Davie targeting him. For this reason, I could see Davie getting the short end of the stick because he just doesn’t have the numbers on his side. I really hope Davie finds an idol or whips out a few immunity wins. I think he’d be a really great winner. But realistically, I don’t see how Nick and Davie both survive three tribals together against four Goliaths. One comes up short, and I think it’ll sadly be Davie.

4. Kara Kay- The fire making challenge is where it gets really interesting, because I don’t think there’s one person who necessarily has an advantage over the others when it comes to making fire. For this reason, I think everyone has the same odds of getting fourth place, it all just depends on who wins final immunity and who they take to the end. We’ve seen from the beginning that Mike and Angelina have been a pair and Nick and Mike have been a pair. Whoever wins the final immunity challenge will likely take Angelina or Mike. This means, unless Kara wins final immunity, she is would definitely be making fire. Now let’s predict who would win a fire-making challenge between each pair. If it’s Angelina vs. Kara, I think Angelina wins because she’s cooked lots of rice and has experience making fires for that reason (remember when she got rice for her tribe???)…hence Kara goes home. If it’s Nick vs. Kara, I think Nick wins because he’s a David and will prepare and train hard to make the fire. If it’s Mike vs. Kara, I could see Kara winning fire making, I guess. That’s a 2-1, with Kara losing fire-making a majority of the time. For that reason, I have her placing fourth.

3. Angelina Keeley- Anyone and their mother could look at this group of six and know exactly who they would take to the final three. It’s Angelina. There’s no question about it. She is the easiest person to beat in the end. She’s made some big moves, especially in the pre-merge, but her gameplay has turned more people off than it’s impressed. Negotiating for rice is going to be her big play, and it honestly isn’t that impressive. I expect her to receive a rude awakening in the end, and while I’d feel bad about it, it wouldn’t be unreasonable. She has been pissing people off, especially jurors like Dan and Alec. She’s the surest bet I have to make it to final three because everyone thinks they can beat her. If Angelina wins, it’ll be the most surprising moment of the season (and maybe the show’s history), and it would likely be a pretty wild ending of the season. She could do it if she makes some big moves in the finale, but right now, the odds certainly aren’t in her favor. Third place, my bet.

2. Mike White- Mike has played everyone, and he’s played WITH everyone. I think nobody sees him as a truly big threat, despite him putting the target on Christian and stirring up some drama with Nick and Davie last week. People may expect to beat him because he has money from his career, and because his moves haven’t been that flashy…and they’d be right. All he really has going for him is the fact that he was likable and made relationships. But when you look at players like Davie, Nick, and even Angelina, they had to really fight for their place in the game at times, and I think Mike has had a pretty easy road thus far. Even Kara, despite never getting a vote, has had to overcome being targeting while Dan was such a big threat. Mike hasn’t overcome much. Even in the earlier rounds when his name was being thrown around, Natalie’s name was being thrown around far more. Do I think he could win? Absolutely. But will he really have to talk his butt off? Yes. I definitely think he has a strong chance of making it to the end. He’s tight with Angelina and Nick, and I think even Alison or Kara would consider taking him to the end if they had the option. He’s a nice guy, but his loyalty has wavered throughout, and he hasn’t made the flashiest moves to garner a win, even if he gets to the final tribal council.

1. Nick Wilson- It’s funny because I think the winner is probably the easiest to predict in the sense that if a David makes it to the finals, they probably win. Not only is the jury made up of Elizabeth, Carl, Gabby, and Christian (and Christian is highly influential on people like Dan, John, and Alec I assume), but the whole season has been built on this principle of David vs. Goliath. It would almost feel wrong for a Goliath to win in the end. That’s why nobody can let Nick or Davie get to the end, but since they’re so good at finding idols, there’s a fire making challenge, and they have made some seriously good relationships, I think one of them will get there. I predict it’ll be Nick. Despite a pretty big blunder playing a fake idol to get a “read” on people….only to waste his real idol by not being able to “read” them right. I think Nick will be smarter going forward, and if he gets to the end, he has a really good case to win. He’s made solid relationships the entire way through. It started with episode one when he and Elizabeth made the “Thoroughbreds” alliance. Then he made an alliance with Christian, “Mason-Dixon.” Then he and Mike made the “Rockstars.” And lastly, his alliance with Davie, whose alliance name was too inappropriate to broadcast on tv (look it up). Nick has been playing hard from the start, but in a low-key way, where he has been able to name alliances, stick with them best he could, while finding idols, advantages, and pulling off blindsides. Think about the first episode, when Nick was supposed to go home first for being lazy around camp, but Pat got medically removed from the game. Nick has a great story, going from the biggest target to someone everyone wanted to work with. Sure, he makes money being a lawyer, but Mike is a Hollywood celebrity, so people are more likely to vote for him. If Nick gets to the end, which may very well happen, I think Nick gets a million dollar check.

So I sort of broke down how I think the episode would go throughout my rankings, but to recap (not assuming any immunity wins): I think the first tribal will have Davie and Nick banding together as the only Davids and getting their friends Mike and Kara to get out Alison. After that, Mike and Angelina will realize that the Davids can’t be sitting in the finals together and will try to get Nick to flip on Davie. Without Davie, Kara will be on her own, and will have to make fire against either Nick, Angelina, or Mike and probably lose. This leaves three contestants who have had ups and downs in the game. Angelina is an easy third place (I even predicted this in my PRE-SEASON power ranking, so I have to hold true to my guts. Between Mike and Nick, I think it’s impossible that a Goliath beats a David in the end. Unless there are three Goliaths sitting together, it should easily be Nick (or Davie if he gets there) winning it all. As for who I’m rooting for, I’d love to see Davie win, and Nick or Kara would also make me happy. If Angelina somehow pulls it off, it would also make for a surprisingly awesome finish. Alison and Mike wouldn’t be ideal for me, but if Mike gets there, he’s going to be very likable and could garner a few votes. It really is anyone’s game, even Angelina’s if she can make big moves in the end. But I have to give the edge to the guy who almost got voted out episode 1 and who has formed the relationships he’s needed to advance in the game.

PREDICTIONS:

Winner- Nick Wilson

Second Place- Mike White

Third Place- Angelina Keeley

Fourth Place- Kara Kay

Fifth Place- Davie Rickenbacker

Sixth Place- Alison Raybould
