Dancing With The Stars S27 Power Rankings (Round 5)

Oct 12, 2018 by PowerRankings101
imageMost Memorable Year night is a tearjerker every year. So will I rank based on dance ability or how much it made me cry? Or both! (Also, Nancy & Val’s days were numbered, but I am shocked that Val is finishing in 11th place on any season. Good for America for doing the right thing, despite Val being a freaking icon. It just wasn’t their season to win).

11. Joe Amabile and Jenna Johnson- Joe makes me smile because of how hard he is working. He is clearly giving it his all every week, and it’s very admirable. The dancing is very choppy and stiff, but he is now nailing the footwork. I think he has way more to go, but he will continue to grow, and I really think he’s improving.

10. Nancy McKeon and Valentin Chmerkovskiy- Nancy is a gem, and I wish we had her energy and positivity around longer in the competition, but alas, their time is cut short. The dancing was as it’s been all season. A bit behind, a little disjointed, and stiff. But this was definitely the most emotionally committed Nancy was, so good for her going out on her best dance.

9. Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess- Bobby, I have to give it to you. This was your best routine, and wasn’t a complete mess. Granted, I still think he’s got a long way to go, and is one of the weakest. But this catered to his non-stop energy in a good way, and I think it bought him more time in the competition.

8. John Schneider and Emma Slater- This dance may keep John around longer. This was a beautiful ode to his mother, and while not danced perfectly, I think there was a really strong emotional resonance and grace to his dancing. This made me smile, as the song itself said. I think it was a bit underscored, if I have to be honest.

7. Mary Lou Retton and Sasha Farber- Mary Lou’s story is absolutely incredible, the way she persevered and pushed through pain to win her championships. While I don’t think she’ll win the mirror ball this time, I think she’s definitely going to capture lots of hearts with this story and spirit. This was the best we’ve seen Mary Lou so far, and despite some shaky nerves going first of the night, I think she really delivered and performed a beautiful dance.

6. DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold- DeMarcus has faded into the background the past few weeks, but I think he’s back with this routine. It was strong, committed, and precise. I think he has a very commanding presence on the dance floor, and I’m glad we get to see him close the night on such a high note.

5. Milo Manheim and Witney Carson- Milo’s story is probably the least emotional of the whole night, but it’s understandable since he’s so young. But damn, can the kid dance. A jive is the type of dance invented for Milo. High energy, fast, spunky. I loved it. And that back-flip? DUDE, that was cool.

4. Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten- Alexis’ story is one that just hits you right in the heart. This was a gorgeous routine. Every lift, every step, every arm extension. It was really touching. Good for her.

3. Tinashe and Brandon Armstrong- How dare they put her in jeopardy? There’s no WAY she was in the bottom of voting last week, right? She was at the top of my list last week, so I can’t imagine she was in any real danger. This week, she slowed it down a bit and delivered another outstanding dance. It was smooth, it was graceful, and it showed off the softer side of Tinashe that is just as good as the spunky side from last week.

2. Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe- Ugh, I love Evanna! It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a Harry Potter routine (Chelsea & Mark’s historic one comes to mind), and I was enchanted just the same. While maybe not the best in terms of footwork or emotional pull, this was probably my most enjoyable routine of the season. Just so magical, full of breath, and oozing with excitement. Loved it.

1. Juan Pablo Di Pace and Cheryl Burke- Usually, every year, the top of the “most memorable year” list is an emotional contemporary ode to someone. But this year, it’s just a celebration! Pure fun! Joy! And may I mention, a PERFECT score. Juan Pablo is now THE front-runner, so we’ll see how the rest of the competition shapes up and who can follow in his footsteps. This was terrific.

So, there’s clearly been a huge surge in most of the performers’ routines. Juan Pablo got the first perfect score, while DeMarcus, Tinashe, Evanna, Alexis, and Milo all got 9s. It’s quite the week. Unfortunately, I think we’ll be losing Joe after all these weeks. He’s the only one that’s score didn’t improve from last week, and between him and John (the two lowest scores), John’s story had more heart this week. That’s what I’m thinking.

PREDICTION:

Going Home- Joe Amabile and Jenna Johnson
