MasterChef S9 Power Rankings (Finals)

We’re here at the finals, and I’ll have to admit, I didn’t expect any of these three to be here in the finals. Gerron had a rough start, Ashley went invisible toward the middle, and Cesar just seemed to be on the weakest team of aprons overall with Chef Aaron. But how it’ll play out, we’ll have to see. Between the five who were left, the right three are still standing. But if we’re looking at the whole season, Julia and Emily should absolutely be there. Remember Olusola? She was also great.

3. Ashley Mincey- Ashley has been doing very well but has never topped my rankings. Why? Because she has never been THE best. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. But what she has working for her is that she is on Team Gordon, and Gordon always seems to have an edge in these things. He had three of the final five on his team. His team basically dominated the competition (which is shocking since Samantha, Bowen, Taylor, and SJ showed some weaknesses down the line). But Ashley was a strong force throughout and could easily win. The only thing holding her back may be her edit, which seems the least “winner-esque.” She also really went invisible in the middle of the season. So for that, I have her in third, but anyone can win. It’s a pot shot.

2. Gerron Hunt- Gerron has been on an uphill climb. There’s just something so endearing about him that makes me really, really wanna root for him. Actually, I’m gonna say right now that I am rooting for Gerron. The only problem is that he did have such a shaky start (he didn’t get good till top 12 week). But it’s not how you start. It’s how you finish. And if Gerron can prove that statement, he’ll be one of the biggest underdog winners we’ve seen. Joe’s team seemed really strong but lost people quickly, with shocking eliminations along the way with Emily and even Shanika. So it’s safe to say, this is a toss up. I’m rooting for Gerron and hope he can pull it out, though I do think Cesar has a small edge on him.

1. Cesar Cano- While Gordon and Joe’s teams seemed stronger on paper, Aaron has had one force carrying him through. It’s Cesar. Cesar has won the most out of these three contestants and hasn’t really been on the bottom more than once or twice. He may not have been the cleanest winner we’ve seen, but he has been on a hot streak and seems to be the favorite. My only worry is that he was on Team Aaron, and Aaron seems to have been given the short end of the stick when it comes to screen time from the judges. But then again, Aaron and Cesar’s bond has also been a focus throughout the season, so Cesar could easily take it home. While I’m rooting for Gerron, I think Cesar takes this one.

I was right that it would be Ashley vs. Gerron vs. Cesar—— which means it’s Gordon vs. Joe vs. Aaron. Out of those three, Gordon would seem to have the edge. But out of the three chefs there, Gerron has the improvement and Cesar has the consistency. Ashley has a reason to win too. So it really is a toss up, but I’m going to take the semi-easy route of picking Cesar to win this whole shebang. But I’d be content with a win from anyone. Especially Gerron, because he’s my favorite.

Winner- Cesar Cano

Second Place- Gerron Hunt

Third Place- Ashley Mincey
