America's Got Talent S13 Power Rankings (Semifinals, Week 2)

Sep 11, 2018 by PowerRankings101
imageI was spot-on for last week’s predictions (but it was a fairly predictable night). This week looks like it’s full of more talent, but we’ll see at the end how predictable it is in comparison to last week. I’m just hoping this week will bring a tougher decision for America. Time for my ranking.

11. Da RepubliK- I was always a bigger fan of Junior New System, who failed to make the cut last week. These guys are fun, but aren’t the best dancers in this whole competition. There was nothing that really set them apart as a dance act, and it seemed a bit generic. It’s a shame for them, but I think this was their last dance.

10. Aaron Crow- This was so over produced, and took forever to get to the actual payoff. I think the fact that Aaron is silent makes it drag even more. It was executed smoother than his past routine from the quarterfinals, but the ending was far too predictable an didn’t really do it for me. The boxes should’ve exploded or caught fire. Something more entertaining. I don’t know.

9. Christina Wells- Christina has a great voice, but she just had tons of trouble with her pitch. I love the confidence she brings to her singing, but she struggled a bit tonight.

8. Noah Guthrie- This wasn’t my favorite vocal of Noah’s. I like his raspiness, but when he kept things mostly in that lower register, it became way too shaky of a vocal. It was pitchy to start off with, and only really shined in his higher notes. A cool rendition of the song, but nothing I’ll remember a few acts after his.

7. We Three- I was incredibly saddened that these guys blew it tonight. I have rooted for them as my favorite act of the season, but they really dropped the ball. I love their sound and their original songs, but the lyrics were unrecognizable as you couldn’t understand a thing they were saying. Their popularity alone could get them into a Dunkin’ Save, but they’re gonna really need to improve for the finals if they make it there.

6. Daniel Emmet- I think Daniel had one of the best vocals of the night in terms of his voice alone. The performance itself felt a bit underwhelming. I don’t think this was as impressive as his song last round, but he sang it with some great pitch and dynamic moments. His operatic sound itself was a bit lacking this time around, but his voice is still really great and I’m rooting for the kid in whatever career he gains from this competition.

5. Angel City Chorale- This is the first time I actually felt like Angel City Chorale deserved to be contenders. Their sound was unified, the song choice was powerful, and the aesthetic of it really worked this time around. It’s still not a Vegas headlining act in my opinion, but this was their best so far in the competition and I really think they stepped it up.

4. Vicki Barbolak- Vicki is a very smart comedienne, and knows how to put on a show. I don’t think her material was particularly strong this time (the trailer gimmick is getting a bit tired), but I think Vicki herself is an amazing personality that is really going to make a name for herself in the future. And Simon not knowing what “Denny’s” is was absolutely hilarious.

3. Glennis Grace- Glennis has one powerhouse voice. She definitely belted the hell out of it and showed up all the singers before her. This was her best act so far, and should guarantee her a spot in the finals.

2. Courtney Hadwin- Courtney didn’t step it up from the last few times, but she still rose above the rest of the competition and did a great job. Her high notes were extra special and she leaves a huge impact no matter what she does. Love her.

1. Brian King Joseph- His music is terrific and he proves with his showmanship that he is ready for a Vegas stage. I think he was my favorite of the night, and I hope America has a taste for a violinist because he was a league above everyone else.

I’ll admit, underwhelming night. Overall. Even Courtney, one of the best of the night, didn’t exactly step it up. I’m underwhelmed. Rough semifinal. But here we go: Courtney, Brian King Joseph, and Glennis will probably go to the finals. As for the rest, there are arguments why every act should stay and/or go. Except maybe Aaron Crow and Da RepubliK. I think we’ll see Vicki, Angel City Chorale, and We Three in the Dunkin’ Save based on past and current performances. I’d love to include Daniel, but being a wildcard may be working against him just a tad bit. Noah and Christina also went too early in the night and I think their acts go overshadowed by better singers in Courtney and Glennis. So out of those three that I think are getting the Dunkin’ Save, I bet Trailer Nasty is going on, and the judges will save the choir. I love We Three, but they really didn’t do a great job tonight which is the biggest letdown of the season for me thus far.

PREDICTIONS:

Going Through- Courtney Hadwin, Brian King Joseph, Glennis Grace, Vicki Barbolak, and Angel City Chorale

Eliminated- We Three, Daniel Emmet, Christina Wells, Noah Guthrie, Da RepubliK, and Aaron Crow
