Top 10 Tuesdays: Top 10 Idol Performances

Mar 27, 2018 by PowerRankings101
imageThere were so many amazing Idol performances, but these 10 are my personal favorites.

Honorable Mentions: Katharine McPhee “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”; Colton Dixon “Piano Man”; James Durbin “Uprising”; Pia Toscano “I’ll Stand by You”; Haley Reinhart “Bennie and the Jets”; Jena Irene “Can’t Help Falling in Love”; Kelly Clarkson “You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman”; Jena Irene “Creep”; Adam Lambert “Whole Lotta Love”; David Archuleta “Imagine”; Blake Lewis “You Give Love a Bad Name”; Chris Daughtry “I Walk The Line”; Clay Aiken “Bridge Over Troubled Water”; Fantasia “Summertime”

10. Kris Allen “Heartless”- Taking a Kanye West song and making it an indie acoustic song. Brilliant. He may not have had the range of Adam Lambert, but his innovative spins on popular songs made him a worthy winner. This was his best.

9. Joshua Ledet “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World”- A powerhouse performance through and through. He was very growly, but it worked perfectly for his rendition of this song. Why it wasn’t a Ledet-Sanchez final I’ll never know, but considering both he and Jessica are next to each other on this top 10 should send a signal that America got it wrong.

8. Jessica Sanchez “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going”- So many people have attempted this song, but Jessica was the best. Proving that size does not equal range, she produced sound like no other. Whoever expected a big voice like that to come out of someone as adorable and tiny as Jessica, it was the most impressive, awesome thing I had seen. While she didn’t win, I believe this was the best song of her season.

7. Haley Reinhart “House of the Rising Sun”- Haley started the season on a rough start, but something clicked midway through that made her a true contender. In a season filled with so many great vocalists in James Durbin, Scotty McCreery, Pia Toscano, and Casey Abrams…THIS was the performance of season 10 that set her far and above everyone else.

6. Carrie Underwood “Alone”- Carrie is one of the best winners we’ve ever had, and this was the defining moment where Simon Cowell said that she would win the season and sell more records than any other winner. He wasn’t only right, but helped Carrie become the star she is now. This was her defining moment.

5. Adam Lambert “Mad World”- Simon rarely stood up…and he not only stood up this time, but he applauded. I am in awe. For Adam, who spent the season showing off his high range and rock and roll pipes, he took it a notch down, focusing on raw emotion and vulnerability, and it was magical.

4. Angie Miller “You Set Me Free”- This is the only pre-live show song on the list. The way Angie sat at the piano and conjured such beautiful sound…let alone in Hollywood week! She is the only contestant to peak in Hollywood week, and while this was her best, she was consistently perfect throughout the rest of the season too. One of the most robbed contestants, and my personal favorite female singer since the O.G. Kelly and Carrie.

3. Kelly Clarkson “A Moment Like This”- The original coronation song. Kelly Clarkson is a master in everything she does, and this was her crowning moment that set Idol for a successful run ahead. Because of this MOMENT, we had 15 more seasons to follow. Not the most original or innovative compared to Harmon’s “Chandelier” or Cook’s “Billie Jean,” but the most emotional and inspiring.

2. Trent Harmon “Chandelier”- I love this rendition so so much. Idol was on a downward spiral, and Trent was that last glimpse of hope and magic that the show needed. He not only hit every note perfectly, but emoted beautifully to the song. I had chills the entire time and never once felt disengaged. This was the perfect song to send off Idol (until it got revived this year, whoops). I love love love it.

1. David Cook “Billie Jean”- David Cook is one of my favorite winners, and this wasn’t just his best performance, but the best performances of all time. The way he took a popular song and spun it to make it something new and unique…that is something only an artist can achieve and I believe he had one of the most innovative arrangements of any song ever on the show.

You should see him on The X Factor UK these days, someone could go up and fart into the microphone and he'll be on the table clapping, I miss mean Simon tbh, I blame having the kid haha xD

Latisha0987 I am in the process of rewatching all of the seasons, so I'm looking forward to watching that performance. She was the best that season in my opinion

dandoe I see him on America's Got Talent, and I agree. He NEVER stood up on Idol, but AGT, he's popping out of his seat so much. Maybe since the competition is younger. I'm not sure
