Top 10 Tuesdays: Top 10 American Idol Winners

With the return of American Idol, I have decided to break down some awesome American Idol top tens. Starting with the top 10 Idol winners, then the top 10 most shocking Idol eliminations,then the top 10 performances,and lastly the top 10 people who should’ve won. Three awesome top 10 lists, so let’s start with the top 10 Idol Winners!

Honorable Mentions: Lee DeWyze (season 9); Nick Fradiani (season 14); Taylor Hicks (season 5); Ruben Studdard (season 2); Phillip Phillips (season 11)

10. Caleb Johnson (season 13)- Caleb was one of the most powerful singers the show had seen. He really didn’t have much of a story or a unique personality, but he had the most unique voice. His style was definitely specific and he always put out amazing music, despite only singing rock music. A great winner.

9. Fantasia Barrino (season 3)- While she wasn’t the best vocalist in my opinion, her emotion and passion is really what drove her to be the best one there. She deserved her win, and was also monumental in being the first African-American woman to win!

8. Scotty McCreery (season 10)- Better lock them doors. This guy was the first male country star to truly breakout from this show. He wasn’t someone I took seriously at first, but became one of my favorites by the end of the season. He was great and competed on a truly competitive season, besting them all to become the 10th American Idol.

7. Trent Harmon (season 15)- Trent was the last winner of Idol, and he definitely ended FOX’s Idol run on a high note. His high notes were always impressive, but it was also his presentation and showmanship that made him a star. While the crop of contestants was lackluster, Trent was a standout from beginning to end, and was truly someone to root for.

6. Candice Glover (season 12)- Candice is the only female winner since Jordin Sparks to win, which is a shame, considering how many amazing women came in the seasons following Sparks (Haley Reinhart, Pia Toscano, Jessica Sanchez). But that only makes Candice more amazing, the fact that she was able to do it and standout as the best from season 12 (and the best winner from the "teen" seasons of 10-15). She was a powerhouse all season long and truly a favorite among many.

5. Kris Allen (season 8)- The true underdog in Idol history. But was he really? He delivered every single week with amazing covers and renditions of famous songs (anyone remember Heartless?). While Adam Lambert was surely the favorite to win, Allen held his ground and became a great winner.

4. Jordin Sparks (season 6)- Jordin was on the first season I watched, so she is a personal choice of mine for the top 4 on this list. She is a gem, and proved that age was just a number, becoming a winner at 17 years old (the youngest woman to ever win). She continued to have success afterward, and has only gotten better with age.

3. David Cook (season 7)- Ah, who can forget the battle of the Davids? People prefer Archuleta? Really?? David Cook is my favorite male winner of the show, giving some of the best rock anthem renditions of famous songs like “Music of the Night” and “Billie Jean.” He is one of my favorite contestants ever, and the clear best of season 7. I’m a huge fan and happy to put him this far up the list.

2. Carrie Underwood (season 4)- Carrie is now a household name, and probably never imagined to be as famous as she is. This show helped her get there, and made her a star. She is one of the greatest vocalists in the show’s history, but also displayed such an amazing amount of confidence and liability that elevated her to more than just an amazing singer.

1. Kelly Clarkson (season 1)- The O.G. This is an obvious. She is the reason why Idol had such a long run (and why it’s even making a return). Her vocals are pitch perfect, her stardom even brighter, and her personality made it incredibly easy to root for her. Kelly Clarkson is one of the greatest artist of our time, and it all started with a little show called American Idol.
