Top 10 Tuesdays: Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2018

Jan 9, 2018 by PowerRankings101
image2018 is upon us. So here are my top 10 most anticipated films for the New Year!

Honorable Mentions: A Quiet Place; Untitled Cloverfield Film; Venom; Love, Simon; Creed II; Tomb Raider; First Man

10. Solo: A Star Wars Story- The newest Star Wars installments “The Force Awakens” and “The Last Jedi” have been awesome. Unfortunately, “Rogue One” kinda missed the mark for me, so I’m not so huge on the spin-off movies. That being said, there’s always hope that there will be a good one. I am definitely worried for Solo because of its production issues early on, but the cast is strong, and I’m sure it’ll have lots of Chewie (my favorite Star Wars saga character), so I’m excited for it.

9. Deadpool 2- Deadpool was seriously awesome. But with the big Disney-FOX deal, I don’t know how the sequel will be handled. The director is new, so there is always worry there…but Ryan Reynolds is just the best, so I really don’t see how this won’t be an awesome, entertaining film, nonetheless.

8. Isle of Dogs- The trailer looked weird, but it’s Wes Anderson. Anderson always has intriguing films, whether those land for me or not. So either way, this will be interesting to watch. It’s great to see him back in the animation helm of it too, bringing forth an impeccable voice cast for this installment in his filmography.

7. Annihilation- “Ex Machina” was one of the best original films of the past few years, so to see director Alex Garland back in the director’s chair, I am kinda freaking out a bit…in a good way. Natalie Portman is fantastic, and I have no doubts that this movie is going to be a strong contender for some fresh ratings.

6. The New Mutants- While the X-Men movies have been so-so, “Logan” took things to new heights. “New Mutants” looks like it will also break some boundaries, and looks unlike anything we’ve seen from the X-Men series. It may be too far out there, but I am willing to embrace the experimentalness of it. Also, Maisie Williams. Yup.

5. Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2- One of the more delightful animated films in recent memory, “Wreck-It Ralph” broke the box office. Now it’s time for him to break the internet. Regardless of whether or not the concept will be entirely perfect, the characters that come from this film are so delightful and amazing, so I have no doubts it’ll get a positive reception when Ralph finds his way to theaters again.

4. Ready Player One- I’m a pop culture nerd, and a Steven Spielberg fanatic, so this film is right up my alley. It may be too chaotic, but if Spielberg can really structure this film the right way, we’re in for a crowd pleaser.

3. Black Panther- So many great superhero movies this year, but this top 3 is the best of the best. Director Ryan Coogler did an amazing job with “Creed” (the fact that he isn’t directing “Creed II” is why “Creed II” didn’t make the list). I think it’ll be great to see Coogler put his own spin on the MCU. Most of the time, the director’s visions get lost, but I’m hoping Coogler’s style and vision will come through for this one. The cast is outstanding, and the trailers look great. Bring on some Black Panther.

2. Avengers: infinity War- All the Avengers, plus the Revengers (recently established in Thor: Ragnarok), and now the Guardians of the Galaxy. The teacup we’ve all been waiting to see…oh wait…

1. The Incredibles 2- The only team-up cooler than Avengers: Infinity War is going to be the reunion of The Incredibles. Avengers: Infinity War may be one of the most epic things we’ll see on screen, but we just saw most of them in “Captain America: Civil War.” I’ve been waiting over 12 years for my Incredibles to return to the screen, and now that they are, there really is no movie I’m more excited for.
