Top Chef S15 Power Rankings (Top 14)

Dec 15, 2017 by PowerRankings101
imageIt was hard to get a grasp on these contestants at first glance. Obviously, Melissa fared a lot worse than I expected. But I did predict some of the top contenders, like Tyler, Fatima, Bruce, and Christopher. Even Tu, who had a great quick fire showing. It is still early on, so it’s going to continue to be hard to rank for some time. But let’s give it a go.

14. Adrienne Cheatham- We barely saw anything from her, and she still ended up on the bottom. She obviously isn’t compelling enough to be heavily featured in this episode, and seems like the most invisible person right now. She’s bound to go home early, so I’ll put her in the bottom spot for safe keeping.

13. Carrie Baird- Carrie had a bad start. She was on the bottom this week, and being a Colorado native, it must be a bit of a letdown for her. But she had much more of a positive edit than Adrienne, so I think she’d be more able to bounce back. Will either actually bounce back? I’m not sure, but Carrie seems more likely.

12. Tanya Holland- Her wings were a standout. But she somehow faded into the background for the next challenge. Going forward, I don’t think she’s going to be as flexible when it comes to going outside her comfort zone. She obviously thrives in her comfort zone, and in Top Chef, you have to break outside of the box.

11. Rogelio Garcia- Rogelio wasn’t horrible, and probably not worthy of my first boot prediction. However, he didn’t necessarily receive overwhelming praise either. He’ll continue to hover over the bottom portion of these rankings until he does something to truly impress me.

10. Brother Luck- Brother has a cool name. That’s about all we got from my supposed “front runner.” I really wanted to see more of Brother, and the fact that we saw minimal screen time for him gives me a little bit of worry going forward.

9. Claudette Zepeda-Wilkins- Claudette knows who she is and what she stands for, and had a fairly good first showing. She seems like a character this season, and has a fight in her that I appreciate. I just want to see more of her to get a better opinion on her chances.

8. Tu David Phu- Tu’s problem is that he’s too nice. He isn’t playing for himself. He needs to get his head in the game, or he can very well be a shocking early elimination. Tu has a heart of gold, which I appreciate, but that comes to bite you in the butt if you aren’t cutthroat like everyone else. I still have hopes that Tu will redeem himself, but he stays at the middle of the pack until he proves it.

7. Bruce Kalman- Bruce had a strong showing, despite making me a little nervous with his timing in the Elimination Challenge. But here’s the thing: Bruce has connections with the judges, so they’re going to be extra tough on him. This could work against Bruce, because the second Bruce makes a mistake, I think he’s going home. There are so many talented chefs, and Bruce seems like one of the cockiest, which can only hurt you in a game like this.

6. Laura Cole- Laura was great in the opener, and I think she has lots of potential to be someone that a lot of people root for. I don’t necessarily have a good read on her cooking yet, but she is someone who knows how to be flexible and know how to maneuver her way in the competition side of things. She will be able to jump over obstacles that others won’t, so I’m definitely a fan of hers.

5. Tyler Anderson- Tyler won the challenge. But he’s very cocky. Like VERY cocky. His cooking has made up for it, but sooner or later, everyone is going to be winning challenges, so Tyler really has to be careful not to be too confident and arrogant. Winning the challenge may put you high on the list, but I rank based on how I think they’ll fare in the incoming weeks, and I still don’t know with Tyler.

4. Joseph Flamm- Joseph cooks really well and everyone seems to like him a lot. This is the season of Joe, and which one is better right now is not a question that can be answered. So I’ll put them together in this ranking.

3. Joe Sasto- Joe was one of the highlights for me this premiere episode. He was funny, and proved himself on the cooking side too. I think he and Joseph (the other Joe) will have some fun this season and both have good chances of going deep in this competition.

2. Christopher Scott- Christopher was one of my favorites. Humble but also motivated and focused. His style of cooking may not be the most interesting, but I think he has potential to do some amazing things this season, and I’m excited to see all that he does.

1. Fatima Ali- Fatima is my favorite right now. She isn’t just a killer chef and a bold risk taker, but she is also sweet as hell, and is there for all the right reasons. Her passion is evident, and really inspiring. I hope she doesn’t lose her steam, because I like her chances a lot.

The people on the bottom are who I have at the bottom. I can’t peg a front runner right now, but there are some obvious people (based on cooking and editing) that just seem to have their days numbered.

PREDICTIONS:

Going Home- Adrienne Cheatham
