Top 10 Tuesdays: Top 10 Holiday Movies

Dec 6, 2017 by PowerRankings101
imageIt’s December, so let’s rank my top 10 holiday movies!

Honorable Mentions: A Christmas Story, Miracle on 34th Street, Frosty the Snowman, Home Alone, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Bad Santa

10. The Nightmare Before Christmas- Is it a Halloween movie? Is it a Christmas movie? We honestly don’t know. But the moments of Jack singing through the snow is memorable and puts us in the holiday spirit, hence why we included it on this list.

9. Frozen- Another movie that isn’t really a holiday movie, but puts us in that spirit with all the snow and vibrant characters. It’s still a perfect movie to watch in the holiday season, and is so enjoyable. The songs are perfect, and while they do get stuck in our head, they’re still nice to listen to nonetheless.

8. The Polar Express- I’m not the biggest Polar Express fan, but I have to commend the animation team. The animation in this is stunning, and the detail is absolutely stunning. A movie that reminds me of going to the big IMAX theatre with my family to watch the beautiful train roll across the screen. While it hasn’t aged well for me, I had to include it.

7. Die Hard- Die Hard? What? Of course Die Hard! It’s a Christmas movie through and through, so it belongs on this list. Bad ass action, a great performance from Bruce Willis, and an epic villain in Alan Rickman. A true classic in both action and holiday films.

6. The Santa Clause- Tim Allen committing murder of THE Santa Claus is quite an interesting concept, but the movie works. It is heartwarming, hilarious, and has some creativity that hasn’t been seen before. While there are issues, this is a must watch for the holiday season, as it just makes you smile throughout. Also, the kid in this is adorable and will brighten your day. But on a side note: don’t kill Santa. Don’t try this at home. Lol.

5. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation- If there’s a movie funnier than any other on Christmas, it’s Christmas Vacation. I’m not huge on the original Vacation, but this movie is just awesome, and I love watching it on the holiday season.

4. Love Actually- Too many celebrities? Nah. Give me all the celebrities, because this movie is charming, endearing, and makes us all believe in the most important thing when it comes to the holiday season: love. Love is everywhere, and love is great, and this movie proves why love is as good as it is.

3. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer- I had to put one of the classic animations on here. I was between this, Grinch, and Frosty the Snowman, but I ultimately chose this because it is the most heartwarming for me. It makes me smile, laugh, and even tear up. Just because it is the essential Christmas movie of my childhood. I love it.

2. Elf- While Christmas Vacation is the funniest film on this list, this is a big contender. But this has more than just a brilliantly comedic script and leading performance from Will Ferrell. It has an abundance of heart, and the story of James Caan’s character is even more important than Buddy the Elf himself. The journey the father takes and the way he turns himself around by the end of the film is magical. It is also the birth of the excellence that is Zooey Deschanel, so we can all be grateful for that.

1. It’s a Wonderful Life- There’s no movie better for the holidays. In fact, this may be one of the best movies period. A classic in every sense of the word. This film brings us all together and reminds us of the beautiful things that come with the holiday season. Grateful for this film and for the holidays. Happy December everyone!
