Top 10 Tuesdays: Top 10 DC Films

Nov 15, 2017 by PowerRankings101
imageThe year has come where we finally have a Justice League film in theaters. Is it gonna be good? We still don’t know, but here are the top 10 DC films of all time (this includes all versions of our heroes, not just limited to the DC Extended Universe).

Honorable Mentions: Watchmen, Superman II, Batman: The Movie (Adam West), Man of Steel, Superman Returns, Road to Perdition

10. Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice- This film isn’t that good. I have lots of problems with it. But it is just so much fun seeing Batman and Superman together on the big screen. While the meet up wasn’t handled well, it was still cool to see, and Wonder Woman saving the day was absolutely perfect. Gal Gadot is the best addition to this new universe, and propelled it forward, enough to even have this film crack the list.

9. The LEGO Batman Movie- Hysterical from beginning to end. No complaints. You can’t take this all too seriously, and it’s far less superior than the first Lego movie, but it still resonates thematically and in comedic dialogue. I really enjoy this film, and think that Will Arnett is an incredible Batman who nails the comedic timing impeccably.

8. Batman- Great villains, a great style courtesy of Tim Burton, and an amazing Batman portrayal from Michael Keaton. This was just a ton of fun and gave us a new type of superhero movie that we hadn’t seen before. And I love this film for that.

7. Batman Returns- Michael Keaton was one of our best Batmen (?), and seeing him return was enough to like this film, but the addition of Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman as one of the best things about this film, and made this film even better than its first installment.

6. V for Vendetta- Not a superhero film, but a DC film nonetheless. This is a cool movie, shot in a very comic-book way that keeps the style so distinct and unique. And Hugo Weaving gives one of the best anti-hero performances ever, behind a mask. Some of the best acting, and you never even see his face. Outstanding.

5. Superman- Nothing like the film that kicked off the superhero film phenomenon. No-one will ever forget Christopher Reeve and his amazing portrayal of Clark Kent and Superman. Other Superman films have attempted to top it, but this is still the best Superman film ever made.

4. Wonder Woman- A newer release, but one of the best for sure. A bad ass hero, portrayed so well by Gal Gadot, and a great director in Patty Jenkins. There are some beautiful, touching character moments, and insanely cool action sequences. The big battle at the end seems a bit familiar, but still entertains, and all of the chemistry between Gadot and Chris Pine is amazing.

3. The Dark Knight Rises- Though it was the weakest of the trilogy, this still has some excellent moments. Bane is a cool villain, and the script is well written once again. A perfect send off to an amazing trilogy, and I can’t get enough of these movies. A great film.

2. Batman Begins- Nolan’s trilogy is probably the best trilogy ever (with only Star Wars or Lord of the Rings to contend for the spot), and without this film, we wouldn’t have the other two films. So for that, I am very grateful for this film, and everything that was elevated in The Dark Knight was very well presented here. And for that, it has to be this high.

1. The Dark Knight- There is no denying that this movie is the best of the DC films ever made, and probably the best comic book movie ever made. It is impeccable from start to finish. A great portrayal from Christian Bale as the hero, and a great portrayal from Heath Ledger as the villain. The casting is perfect and the action is top notch, but unlike most of the films below this one, this one also focuses heavily on character and tugs at the heart strings.
