Why do all the main characters in each Pokemon generation have single moms... Is this a subliminal message or something?

In Generation 3 the mom was not single, the dad was the 5th gym leader.

Running from the kanto war theory a slight spoiler but part of the plot in this game actully recognises that there was a war the don't explain how or why but there was a war a very long time ago; so maybe most of the men still join the army?
