uwukween was one of the latest additions to the TSC 2021 cast, having joined pretty late in the year and only having sent 8 songs eligible for my countdown. so i DO think it says something about uwukween’s mind that i want to spotlight four songs that really changed my world despite them not being around in TSC for that long. her mind amazes me, i am immensely scared of her power and i can’t wait to see what she sends next year.
✧ “return” by cacophony // finished 7th in TSC 459, 88 points (4 points given)
a massively underrated send, even by me! i haven’t returned to this as much since its’ last contest, it really only CLICKED with me when i was going over the list of songs sent this year and decided to relisten to it. and honestly this is so pretty. so slaybak. so stunning in like the ears u know? the kate bush english teacher beats this exudes… u know? something to exercise your MIND like the romans. not uwukween’s biggest grower for me, but it is a very stunning song that even i kinda overlooked at the time.
✧ “cut me up” by miss alexia // finished 16th in TSC 460, 38 points (I WASN’T IN THIS CONTEST :X)
REAL WOMEN ASSEMBLE. i wasn't in this contest but obviously had i been this would've been my 12, with gryffin x lova as my 10. this is just an insane PIECE OF WORK to me (it does honestly sound a lot like that future best of winner) and the various comments on miss alexia in the TSC 460 forum reeked of misogyny and women hating. we love u miss alexia <3
✧ “fancy” by lennon stella // finished 14th in TSC 461, 55 points (1 point given)
ONE POINT???? 14TH PLACE???? i, like everyone in TSC 461 bar a select few, should be held accountable for not giving this audible transcendent gorgeous piece of christian white girl music the praise and points it deserved. like a certain white woman who was also present in TSC 461 who i’ll be discussing in a later user spotlight wink, i had never really cared for lennon stella until this song. and even then this had to grow on me until i realised what a gorgeous gorgeous song it is. it TRULY is something for the summertime, something for the manifestation journals, something for the je suis, the baguettes, the française, the language of lurvvvv. none of those words are in the bible but i like to think that when i die, i’ll be greeted by lennon stella’s “fancy” playing at the gates of heaven. either that or…
✧ “un millón” by the marías // finished 9th in TSC 462, 72 points (12 points given)
i really liked “hush” for its lidl cinematic murder teen drama netflix teaser trailer soundtrack serve… but this is like. incredibly transcendent and gorgeous actually. unlike lennon which took time to grow, my love and adoration for “un millón” was instant, and it really has only grown since then like OMG they were so crazy and cuckoo and wild for this. like it’s a very simple song but the way it’s executed? the reggaeton beat coupled with the maria’s dreamy voquelles and the magnifique synths? very french of them. this song was one of the few TSC sends that wasn’t sent by me to make it to my spotify wrapped LMFAO so you KNOWWW i really really like this. and honestly is this in contention for my favorite send of the year? maybe. it is just an intricately produced tune, truly crack for my ears. absolutely insane and a massively underrated song and when it wins best of 2021 i will be cheering it on obviously.
