Eurovision 2021 Semi-Final 1 Prediction

May 17, 2021 by Patrick319
1st - ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡น Malta
Despite the winner hype dying down, I think Destiny is very much still a contender to win Eurovision. From what I've seen I think the performance looks slick and professional, and Destiny has the best voice by and large. I'd be shocked if she didn't win the jury vote tonight. I'm less certain whether the public will get behind this because I think Destiny's stage presence can come across as cold and calculated, but I think that in the semi-final at least this will perform sufficiently in the televote.

2nd - ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡พ Cyprus
Looks and sounds like an award show performance. I feared this would pull a Tamta 2.0 and underperform expectations, but I think Elena has delivered a stronger overall package than Tamta had two years ago. I think this will be top four with both juries and televoters for being a modern piece of pop music, culminating in 2nd place overall.

3rd - ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡น Lithuania
I think The Roop can easily win the televote in this semi-final. They already have 24 points locked from Ireland and Norway, and I don't see why this wouldn't do well across the rest of Europe. It's a perfect way to kick off this years Eurovision after a long two years. This will certainly perform better in the televote than the jury vote, but I don't think juries will necessarily downgrade this or anything.

4th - ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Ukraine
From the looks of it this is one of the most impressive performances of the year. I never doubted Ukraine's qualification, but now everyone acknowledges that this is solidly qualifying, and deservedly so. I think Ukraine has the potential to win the semi-final televote.

5th - ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ Russia
This is obviously a song geared toward the televote with its quirkiness, but I could see jurors giving this some love as well for the female empowerment messaging and motif. In any other year I think Russia would be a strong contender to win but this year is so incredibly competitive that it might do worse than it should. But obviously a qualifier.

6th - ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ฟ Azerbaijan
For the past week I've been thinking that of all the female bops in this semi-final, Azerbaijan would be the one to miss out on the final. But after seeing about half of the live performance I think this is actually qualifying. Sure, the stage is pretty empty, but I still think it looks really good. The quick camera cuts make the performance appear dynamic, and I think the pyro adds a nice touch. Azerbaijan have come a smidge away from qualifying with far worse.

7th - ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด Norway
I'm so torn on this, but I think it's qualifying? I think this has the potential to be a total televote whopper. Think Poland 2016. But on the other hand, I could also see it completely failing to connect with viewers and falling flat. I also don't think juries will rate this highly. While I think it's qualifying, it's definitely one of the countries on the bubble I'd say.

8th - ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ช Belgium
This might be a bold prediction, but contrary to what the oddsmakers have to say, I think Belgium is qualifying. This SHOULD get over 100 points from the juries. I can't imagine being a music industry professional and NOT ranking this in the top five. I'll give jurors some leeway, but any jury member that doesn't rank this song in their top ten is an absolute clown and deserves to have their credentials stripped away. I think Hooverphonic's performance looks classy and sophisticated. I worry about its televote score but I think it's guaranteed some points from countries in which Hooverphonic are known such as the Netherlands and Germany, so that gives me more hope that this can accumulate enough points to sneak through.

9th - ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช Sweden
If there's a year in which Sweden don't qualify, it's this year. While I like Voices, I think something here is failing to connect. I suspect the juries will put this over the edge and I do think it has enough anthemic qualities to secure televotes as well, but this feels like it has become a borderline qualifier for me.

10th - ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ท Croatia
I think Croatia definitely deserves to qualify this year, and I think they just will. Everything about this screams 10th place qualifier to me. I won't be surprised if it gets knocked out, but I think as an overall package this has enough going for it to reach the final.

11th - ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช Ireland
My first borderline non-qualifier hurts because I love Maps. This does have a lot going for it. Lesley's staging is bold and inventive, and it certainly won't be forgotten about on the night. At the same time, I struggle to see where this picks up points from. I think it's an uphill battle for Ireland, but I hope to see Lesley sneak through to the final.

12th - ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฐ North Macedonia
This might be crazy but I think Vasil is doing wonders for himself. This appears strong both vocally and visually. Vasil is doing everything he can to elevate this songs chances. I could easily see this pick up 50-70 jury points, but I suspect the televote will ultimately be what does him in.

13th - ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ด Romania
I think Amnesia is a strong radio song, but Roxen isn't doing herself any favours with her performance abilities. The girl can't sing. This feels very much like it's on the same trajectory as Srbuk and Ester Peony from 2019 - a dark, moody pop song that fail to get its message across to voters. However, what this does have going for it is that the song is extremely modern and radio-friendly which could help secure jury points. But Roxen's vocals almost feel as if they're nullifying that fact.

14th - ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ Israel
Before the contest I thought this was a dark horse to place in the top ten because the revamp was *incredible*, but from what I've seen the performance feels extremely basic? I think the similar colour palette to Croatia also doesn't help this stand out much. I think this is a big missed opportunity from Israel.

15th - ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Australia
I love Montaigne and I love Technicolour, but I can't see who votes for this. I could almost see this place last in the televote. And while we've relied on juries to carry Australia into the final in past years, Technicolour is probably their least jury-friendly Eurovision song to date. I don't even think the fact that Montaigne isn't in Rotterdam is what will cost her qualification. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see this making a dent in the scoreboard.

16th - ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ Slovenia
Before the contest I thought this could have peaked around 12th or 13th in the semi-final, but I think Vasil has outperformed Ana in a lot of aspects. This song feels super forgotten sadly. It might not place last, but I think it's securely placing in the bottom three of the semi-final after the events of the past week with other countries elevating their song with the performance.
