🇭🇺 A Dal 2019 🇭🇺 Final Ranking & Review

Feb 21, 2019 by Patrick319
Ranking & review of the A Dal finalists for this weekends upcoming final.

1. Joci Pápai - Az én apám
2. Gergő Szekér - Madár, repülj!
3. The Middletonz - Roses
4. Bence Vavra - Szótlanság
5. Gergő Oláh - Hozzád bújnék
6. Acoustic Planet - Nyári zápor
7. Fatal Error - Kulcs
8. Bogi Nagy - Holnap

A Dal this year was seriously underrated. Dare I say it was the best national final this season? While a lot of my favourites were eliminated along the way thanks to the archaic juries (RIP to iconic bops from Leander Kills, yesyes, and USNK), I still very much enjoy the final lineup.

If Joci Pápai wins, he will easily be in my top five again. Obviously, Az én apám is not as good as Origo, but I think it's just as magical. His most recent semi-final performance was especially strong, and his scores from both the juries and public reflected that. Joci Papai can do no wrong and I'm ready to STAN for another whole year.

Gergő Szekér is a pleasant surprise for me, and I think he has a good chance at pulling off an underdog win. His song combines multiple genres well and the performance is incredibly unique. Gergő is also really cute, and he seems wholesome enough. I don't really have anything negative to say.

The Middletonz easily have the most radio friendly track in the final, so predictably they're only here because of the public. Their live performance is okay but I just really like Roses as a song. Bence Vavra's song is also quite radio friendly, and is definitely a grower. In fact he might have the most modern song in this final. I like Gergo Olah's song as well. It's a nice ballad, though I'm unsure if it stands out enough in this lineup.

While I like my top five, I'm not a fan of my bottom three. Sending Fatal Error to Eurovision would literally be a fatal error. Kulcs is exactly the type of rock song that DOESN'T work at Eurovision. Finally, while I appreciate the fact that Hungary let TWO women into their final this year, Acoustic Planet and Bogi Nagy sadly both kind of bore me. I don't think either of them is the right choice, despite Acoustic Planet having a pleasant instrumental.

I think the four super-finalists following the jury vote will be Joci Pápai, Gergő Szekér, Acoustic Planet, and either Bence Vavra or Bogi Nagy. The juries are (hopefully) over Fatal Error's song.

If The Middletonz are let through to the final, I think they have a good chance at winning. However, I'm unsure how Hungary feel about letting Andras Kallay-Saunders return to the contest so soon after he last participated. The same applies to Joci Pápai. If that has any weight on the voters, I think Gergő Szekér is winning. If not, then Joci Pápai will win.

Same top 3 but Joci's song needs to grow on me cause it doesn't leave nearly enough the impact that origo did.
