NicoleF's Top 100 Songs of 2020 - #49-52

Jan 23, 2021 by NicoleF
#52 - Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys) - Rina Sawayama

This is Rina Sawayama's third entry on my year-end rankings. This is her highest placing song so far! Will she be able to beat it later on this year?

What a bad bitch! Gives me the same vibes as Tove Lo's Jacques and I love that song too! It just has such a fun vibe. I should've known from the beginning that I'd love this when Rina asks "is it on?". Like, no joke, when Rina talk-sings after the chorus...chills. She literally sounds like such a bad bitch during that owns everything during that part! In general, though, I just like the retro-esque dance vibe this gives and it's so fun to bop to! Could see myself bopping in the club to this!

#51 - 34+35 - Ariana Grande

This is Ariana Grande's seventh entry on my year-end rankings. Her highest placement was last year with ghostin at #1. Will she be able to reach the top again this year?

Only Ariana can have a song be about 69'ing and make it work so well. Honestly, when I first heard this song, I thought it was cute and fun, but thought nothing of it, but it has grown soooo much for me! Like, honestly, one of the biggest growers of the year and it had, like, the least time to grow since it came out two years before 2020 ended. Still, though, the whole purpose of this song is to not take it seriously. It's supposed to be lulzy, and it is, but it also sounds really good. Like Ariana still snaps lyrically and vocally. I love the little add-ons at the end like "means I wanna 69 with you...no shit" and "math class...never was good" because it makes the song/Ariana feel more relatable and it allows you to connect more to the song. I love it!

#50 - positions - Ariana Grande

This is Ariana Grande's eighth entry on my year-end rankings. Her highest placement was last year with ghostin at #1. Will she be able to reach the top again this year?

Okay first off, the visuals on this music video are SICKENING! Like easily one of Ariana's best music videos ever! Literally every frame is a beautiful photo. Okay now onto the song. This was Ariana's first, like, album single in awhile. It literally had been over 1.5 years since the last one (break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored) so I was hyped as fuck ESPECIALLY because this was a surprise release. No one thought Ariana was releasing in 2020 and she shocked us at the last second. It's not her best opening single ever (especially when no tears left to cry/Dangerous Woman/The Way exist), but it's very strong and has such a good flow with beautiful vocals, especially at the end. It was immediately catchy and, if anything, became catchier overtime. The chorus is literally addicting. I'm so happy it blew up and is one of the biggest songs of the new charting year after so many people predicted it would flop. Ariana run pop!

#49 - betty - Taylor Swift

This is Taylor Swift's seventh entry on my year-end rankings. Her highest placement was last year with Cruel Summer at #3. Will she be able to beat it this year?

folklore outsold evermore and this placing above both evermore tracks shows that. This song is just so pretty. It takes us on a journey and tells a beautiful story and honestly...stan Betty/Taylor. It's just...if you don't listen to the lyrics, I could see it coming off boring, but once you just listen to the lyrics and give it a chance, it's so beautiful. It reminds me of a song you'd just have someone singing gathered with friends at a fire. Just has that vibe, but I love it. The final minute is literally a thing of perfection! It's just so beautiful, simple, and effortless. Taylor has me on this Betty train and I never want off!
