Since I had so much time in quarantine, I listened to way more projects than usual, 40 to be exact. Most are albums, but there's 2 or 3 EPs in there so I thought it'd be fun to rank them!
#33 is.......Father Of All Motherfuckers - Green Day
Highlights - Fire, Ready, Aim is just such a fun song to dance out to! It's a great song for Green Day that feels nostalgic even though it was released in 2019! It has a lot of stuff I want in a Green Day song...except the time. It's less than 2 minutes and that's what's really keeping it from a purple rank cause it comes and goes too quickly! Love the sections where we get the 'oohs' though! The time is actually my issue with a lot of the songs I love on this album. Sugar Youth literally slaps so hard...but once again it comes and goes way too quickly, once again clocking in at less than 2 minutes. Listening to this album was nice in the sense that it didn't drag because there were only a few songs and they were mostly short, but when I go back to listen again, I want...more. I'm greedy Green Day! Give me longer songs even if it means combining songs! Give me another Holiday / Boulevard Of Broken Dreams combo where it's, like, an 8-minute combo song!
Lowlights - Of course the only song I dislike on this album is literally the longest song, I Was A Teenage Teenager. First off, horrible song title. Right when I saw it, I just got a vibe that it was gonna be a bad song and, of course, I was right. It's just, like, inauthentic. I don't know how to explain that really, but this song just doesn't feel Green Day-esque. Like obviously it has their sound and all that, but the lyrics just don't do it for me and feel so lackluster and just feels like Green Day is trying to be something they're not with the lyrics. Love the guitar solo near the end of the song, but the chorus just annoys me and, hell, even some of the vocals are annoying too. It's not putrid, but it's just disappointing and doesn't come together for me.
