New's Movie Taste: All Stars - ROUND 3 (RESULTS)

Jun 27, 2022 by NewNightmare7
Wow who would have thought this game would have continued huh? I just had this spark in the last couple of days and I powered through a majority of the films.

As I have said in the past, my mental health has dipped and it dipped even more dramatically. Its been long and very tough and im surprised im alive tbh but nevertheless I'm sorry for taking so long and I appreciate the patience and respect you have all shown me. It means alot <3

Ok so this round was all about movies that just had to be fun! Here are the results! Starting with the SAFE:

PennyTrationStan - But I'm a Cheerleader (1999) - Clea DuVall in the 90's had the most amazing hair style. I love the strands that fall down her face. Like damn she is great. I stan her. Anyways, this is real ass cinema. Its a very messy movie that I feel with its tone doesn't know what it wants to be but it makes it better? It has grounded moments and bombastic hilarious moments and it gives me gay wet hot american summer vibes and I dont know why. RuPaul gave me Paul Rudd and I was down for it. Clea DuVall and Natasha Lyonne's relationship is the heart of the movie though and its so cute. I believe their chemistry and its so cute. What a fun movie and I was not prepared for it. I love your knowledge of film its so expansive.

Thirteen - 2001 Maniacs (2005) - Ok I normally start off with stuck I like but one thing off the bat I did not was that banjo scene because it was obviously a homage to Deliverance...and then they reference it themselves like that to me was like hella lazy. Anyways, this is not really my type of movie but I have to commend those effects. That was ridiculous and I loved every second of those kills. Also Lin Shaye and Robert England just doing their thing I stan. While this isn't my thing I can't deny I kind of had a good time with it. Its stupid and i'd never wanna rewatch it but it was pretty entertaining and fun so it fit the theme!

austino15fffan - Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) - I never thought I'd see Jason Segel's penis but now that I have I don't know if i'm upset about it. I don't think so. Anyways, I went into this movie fully expecting to hate it because im not all that interested in comedy movies but more particularily Judd Apatow style comedies. However, I really enjoyed this movie and it comes down to the chemistry. Mila Kunis and Jason Segal are so cute. Particularily Mila Kunis. She is so stunning and amazing and I just love her. Anyways, while not all of the comedy stuck for me I did enjoy quite a bit of it and I was just invested. It was fun and im glad I enjoyed it!

nateclove - Venom (2005) - You can tell this movie came out after Saw because of it's flashy editing. Im also really surprised this is directed by Jim Gillespie cause he didnt do a bad job on I Know What You Did Last Summer. I don't know what happened here. Its a weird tone cause it wants to be a 90's movie but has awful 2000's style. This makes me sound like im hating on it and thats probably true but im not giving it enough credit because it is surprisingly entertaining. You described it pretty well. Its shlock and dumb but it can be fun so yeah!

Congrats on safety! Now to our TOP 4:

stuartlittle16 - School of Rock (2003) - Oh I absolutely love this movie! I just love how much weight this movie has to it. Richard Linklater just understands coming of age and its so fascinating seeing it with the use of music. The cast though...ugh so good. Jack Black, Mike White, Miranda Cosgrove, Joan Cusack and all the other kids are really good too! Judging this purely on enjoyment, its a hit. I love rock music, I love the pace, I love the story and it entertains me so much its one of my favourite movies probably. Massive step up from last round great job!

CarolinaSteele - Lilo & Stitch (2002) - So I could never recall anything from this movie until I was just like fuck it and watched it a couple months ago and oh my god did this movie fuck with me. I love it. Its so cute. The design of Stitch is incredible and I love the journey he goes through. Its not a movie where he just does wacky things, there are real stakes and weight to this movie and that comes down to the siblings. Oh my god as someone who has worked with kids and has seen a couple go through court systems and what not, it was so heartbreaking watching two people not being able to understand their role to each other yet and its played so well. Like I genuinely cried at one moment cause I was like damn! Its such a beautiful movie and without a doubt one of my favourite disney movies (even movies in general) of all time.

turkeylover - Everything Everywbere All At Once (2022) - I waited until I could go see this in a theatre and god I am so glad I did because this movie was a wonderful theatre experience. I absolutely loved this movie. It was alot of fun and hilarious. Jamie Lee Curtis' butt plug trophies are something I aspire to have. Michelle Yeoh is such an underrated gem and absolutely shines in this movie. Ugh this was so great! Stephanie Zsu was great. Her fight scene with the dildos were a standout. The comedy was just yes. Hot dog fingers was a vibe. Loved it! This was so close to the top of the list for this year but it remains in the top 2 so yasss

Symmetry888 - Heathers (1989) - Oh god I love this movie. Its borderline distasteful but its what I love about it. Its so dark and cynical that sometimes its icky to watch but at the same time its endlessly quotable. I quote this movie so often its kind of ridiculous. The performances are phenomenal. Winona Ryder, Christian Slater and Shannen Doherty are all so good. Its very funny, has so much personality and will be forever iconic. I can't help but feel what it would be like if Stanley Kubrick did direct this like the writer wanted. That would be bonkers but I think its great with what was had. It hits the spot pretty well. Christian Slater is pretty terrifying in this movie but its captivating. Like Veronica just burns her hand and he fucking uses it to light his cigarette. Ugh I just love this movie.

And with that the TWO WINNERS of this week are:

stuartlittle16 & CarolinaSteele! Congrats! I love your movies so much <3

The others (im too lazy to type it) will get a HIGH!

Our BOTTOM 3:

JayElVeeIsBack - Let's Go to Prison (2006) - Uhm it's a movie. I don't really know how I feel about it. On the one hand, its fine as a made movie but on the other hand I just didn't care much for it. It had a steady line and never detracted from it. I will say though that Chi McBride as Barry was the standout. He was quite funny. I don't really have much else to say. Actually I do have one more tbing. How the hell is John married to Kristen Bell in real life tf.

demgirl6 - Mama Mia! (2008) - So I can't lie that I have never had any aspiration in life to view this movie. I don't mind musicals and I love Abba but if I wanted to listen to Abba I would just check them out. However, I went into this movie open minded because I also love Amanda Seyfried so. I think my overall opinion though is that this is kind of meh. The cinematography is pretty nice. The songs are faithful and a majority of the performances are fine but I find myself just not being invested in the story. I do find it interesting that Meryl Streep is a hoe and can't figure out who the father is but it doesn't really go anywhere for me. I don't know I just wasn't vibing with it.

Voila - Sorority Boys (2002) - Oh wow. Uhm I don't really know what to say about this movie. I mean you described it right. Its very trashy and I didn't really connect with it :/

And with that....
