New's Movie Taste - ROUND 8 (RESULTS)

Jan 3, 2022 by NewNightmare7
Hey icons! Im back!

Yes after nearly a month hiatus of being fully depressed, I watched all the movies I needed to today and am ready to continue with the game! So its been a while and I asked you in partners to create the perfect double feature! Here are the critiques:

turkeylover & Symmetry888:

Thelma & Louise (1991) - Oh this movie kicks ass. I love both performances and the fact that they just dont give a shit about anything. Gina Davis looks stunning as hell and I love it. Also Brad Pitt is hot and his character here is awful but hes hot so its ok. If I have any gripe is that the runtime could probably be cut a little bit as the pacing is a little off in the middle closer to the 3rd act but this is a great road fugitive movie and yas

Violet & Daisy (2011) - I was reading consensus opinions on this movie and called it a Quentin Tarantino ripoff. Aside from like some choices in dialogue/chapter thingy I dont really see it? Especially since this is a linear story buf whatevs. Also, the fact that 57821 by Janelle Monae is in here is amazing. Anyways, the two girls pop off. Ive always loved Saoirse Ronan since Hanna and Alexis Bledel does a really good job as well. The dynamic of the two make the movie itself interesting which is good cause its a pretty basic concept and lacks a little bit of flare style wise to really stand out. Its not bad, it has great moments but I would like some more yanno? I will say that overall, this is a fun double feature!

PennyTrationStan & demgirl6:

The Craft (1996) - Legit one of my favourite movies ever. Everything is on point! The performances, the set design, the 90's feel, the fucking iconic fashion it all works and I absolutely live for it. Everyone gets their moment to shine (except arguably Rachel True) and I love how they all have something working against them. They flesh it out very well. The witchcraft stuff is so cool to watch, especially the final act and I absolutely adore Neve Campbell. There are just subtle facial expressions she does that I love, like in the bathroom scene when she does that little sinister smirk to Sarah. Also Fairuza Balk going batshit crazy from killing Skeet Ulrich to the end is amazing and I love it. I could literally gush forever. I do wish Rochelle had more to do and some of the cut scenes were in the film but those are small to the overall amazingness of The Craft.

Practical Magic (1998) - Can I just say that I started to smile from the opening hanging scene? Is that sinister? I have to say though even though the movie itself might not be for me entertainment wise, I cannot deny the talent of the 4 leads, particularily Sandra Bullock and Stockard Channing. I find them to be exquisite. I also like the idea of witches being known and living among the rest. Its pretty cool. I think I enjoy the idea of the movie than the movie itself but together with The Craft, I can't deny that its a great double feature!

tbrown_47 & oswordo3:

Ma (2019) - Hmm. There are things to enjoy but also stuff I disliked. Firstly, Octavia Spencer just relishes this role and its great. The way she just murders Missi Pyle is like hilarious but shocking and its great. Diana Silvers is beautiful and I absolutely love her performance in this. The movie has some good tension and built up suspense with Sue Ann. That being said, my main problems come with the uneven pace. The way the movie flows can be very choppy and it makes the overall tone unbalanced. One moment it can be alot of fun then throw you into suspense then throws it into comedy and it could work if it was set up better. I think overall, it has a rewatchable factor to it and its mostly just numb fun but problems circle the movie no doubt about it.

Mama (2013) - Ooo I really like Andy Muschietti! Never seen this before the two IT's but my friend has always talked it up. I gotta say, its talked up well. Its a classic style with a rather unique spin on it with the concept of feral children which I find investing to see. Nikolaj megalastname is really good as the story through his eyes but Jessica Chastain (despite the awful hair cut) carries this movie. She is just a really solid actress. The CGI (like IT) is sometimes really good, sometimes really bad and overall reliant but the visual aesthetic of Mama (and Javier Botet) overall work really well. A solid movie and fits with Ma as a double feature although i'd take this over Ma anyday.

And with that, the best double feature and winners of this Round are...

demgirl6 & PennyTrationStan! Congrats. You both killed it <3

Which makes tbrown_47 & oswordo3 the bottom 2 of the week.

Where as the previous round, I would have you resubmit that fits the theme, this week is a little difficult as I dont want you to submit 2 more movies...so here is the category!

Based on Stephen King! I love Stephen King stories and the movies based on his work are some of the best to be made...so choose wisely! There are a few that are ineligble from being sent previously but im too lazy to find that out unless it was sent. Please MAIL me your submissions

Good luck and I will not take a month like last time for the elimination. Promise <3
