New's Movie Taste - ROUND 6 (RESULTS)

Dec 7, 2021 by NewNightmare7
Round 6 and final 8. Again but we stan

For this round we have 2 people that are SAFE:

Symmetry888 - Grease (1978) - Well considering this is the only musical outside of Disney that i've seen, I have to say its the best one! Honestly though, its just a great movie. It feels very fiftys while the music is definitely 70's which I prefer. The music itself is obviously a highlight. In the 10th grade, I had to perform a song from a musical so a huge group did "Summer Lovin'" (I sang Danny's part) and it was great! The best song though is "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee" and no one can tell me otherwise. My main gripe would be Sandy changing herself for a man (ew). It would be different if she did it for herself but the two final songs make up for it so im cool with it. Just a great movie!

PennyTrationStan - A Bay of Blood (1971) - Damn this movie does not fuck with the blood. I find italian horror movies to be so bizarre with make up for blood cause its so glossy red but like pop off? Anyways, this movie has some great kills, horny naked people and a director named Mario so it has everything? This is just to me dumb fun and I really enjoy it for the most part (although I didn't pay as much attention as I probably could have but thats my own problem). I did find the cinematography extremely disorrienting with the constant zooms but a small complaint to an otherwise inventive (for the time) film.

Congrats on making the final 7! Now onto to the TOP 3:

Becksta20 - A Clockwork Orange (1971) - I knew a Kubrick movie would show up at some point! And interestingly enough, this is my favourite one! The content in it is definitely fucked up and hard to watch sometimes but I just love the way its made. Kubrick as a perfectionist might make him an awful person to be around, but makes his movies have that appeal. From the set design to the music (the opening music in particular) to the performance from Malcolm McDowell. It works for me and I like the ambiguous ending. Just so great!

Demgirl6 - Carrie (1976) - Oh fuck yeah! I would put this in my top 5 horror movies of all time. Brian De Palma directs the shit out of this movie and I enjoy every single second of this film. The prom massacre is one of the best scenes in all of film. The use of split screen (despite being done first by De Palma in Sisters) is used to original effect here and I love the carnage. Sissy Spacek fits the role of Carrie so well that no one would ever compare. Amy Irving and Nancy Allen also are amazing in this movie as well. The main theme with the flutes is also beautiful. Ugh I could gush about this forever.

turkeylover - 3 Women (1977) - Uhm...this was something else. I just found this unsettling and bizarre but like in the best way. I can't even talk about it because it is just such an experience I can't describe my thoughts. I will say Sissy Spacek and Shelley Duvall are legends and no one will say otherwise. I just ultimately enjoyed this movie start to finish and i'm so happy this was submitted cause I would probably never hear about this unless it was like some film literacy class or something. Keep up the great submissions cause you continue to crush it

And the winner of week 6 is....

Demgirl6! Congrats on not only returning but proving a point that you are here to win. I love it! Becksta20 and turkeylover will recieve HIGH placements!

Now onto our BOTTOM 3 (which is a Bottom 3 for a reason):

tbrown_47 - Foxy Brown (1974) - I have only seen like ome Blaxploitation film which is Jackie Brown and that takes clearly alot of inspiration from this movie. I know that this is a divided genre and as someone with no knowledge on it I shall not comment on it but rather just talk about the movie itself. First off, why does Katherine look like LaToya Jackson? I was genuinely confused for a moment. Anyways, Pam Grier fucking shines in this movie (no duh). I love the savvy-ness of her character and she takes no bullshit which good for her! To be honest though, I don't know if I was feeling it. It feels unneccessarily gratuitous which I can handle but there is only so much before I lose interest. The farm scenes were mostly where I checked out. Also in regards of just sheer entertainment, it does lack. I do find the action scenes hilarious because it was so over the top and completely missing but I loved it. I think overall, there is stuff to appreciate but overall, its just meh.

oswordo3 - Alien (1979) - The fact that the movie is now 42 years old and looks like it could have been made the in the 2000's is astonishing to me. It fucking looks amazing! The sound holds it back like a tiny bit but like no. This movie genuinely is one of the best ever made and in my opinion is much better than Aliens. I like the slow pace horror this movie brings. Its subtle and unique and doesn't take to the normal sci-fi settings of the time (now a days a different story). My issue a little bit lies in this kind of being an obvious choice and it is giving me the perception that you are coasting a little bit. Ultimately I wanna see more.

nateclove - House (1977) - Wow! This movie was a trip. There is definitely something to appreciate. First, this movie is just insanely wacky and bizarre so it keeps you being like "what the fuck?". I also like the weird camera work and some of the editing choices but definitely not all. Also the piano scene sounded like MCR was about to start playing and I was ready! I think where this movie lacks for me personally is the overall appeal. Its intriguing to watch cause its bizarre but am I as entertained as I probably should be? Eh not really. I don't know if i'd rewatch it again or honestly even remember anything aside from the bizarre editing.

And the eliminated contestant is.....

nateclove :( honestly this breaks my heart because you have been doing consistently well and always near the top. I appreciate taking a risk but unfortunately it didn't pay off. Thank you so much for playing I appreciate it ❤

tbrown_47 & oswordo3 will recieve LOW placements. I know you guys can do better and have done better so I wanna see it cause it could be the end if it doesn't happen.

And thats it for week 6! I thought this would have been done by Sunday but look at me go! Stay tuned tomorrow morning for week 7!
