New's Movie Taste - ROUND 2 (RESULTS)

Nov 13, 2021 by NewNightmare7
Hello and welcome to the results show for week 2!

Another pretty solid week! Definitely got to see some of your taste a little more and overall I like what I see!

The following contestants are SAFE:

Symmetry888 - Men In Black (1997) - Oooo I love Will Smith. I tend to enjoy most movies he is in and its great! Surprisingly I have never seen this as a child but I checked it out earlier this year and I found it thoroughly enjoyable. Once again showing my love for Will Smith, his comedy always works for me and is the clear standout of the movie. The pug is fun too! I also tend to enjoy Barry Sonnefields direction because it has this slapstick tendency without it being overbearing and its nice. Overall, a fun movie that lacks some weight but makes up for it in entertainment.

oswordo3 - Scream 2 (1997) - A rather odd choice not gonna lie. Granted, it was submitted before the original but im always perplexed at people submitting sequels. It can make it a weird viewing having possibly not seeing the other movie(s) for context. Never the less this is my favourite sequel of the series. Despite everything in production going wrong with the script, it still manages to have the same flare the original has, albeit to a smaller scale as most sequels do. Where alot of slasher sequels don't care, this one does and it has so mich heart that its hard not to love it. I say this for all of the Scream movies (yes even 3. I have a soft spot for it).

nateclove - Miss Congeniality (2000) - Omg what a fun time. This was exactly the kind of movie I was in the mood for and it was just so much fun! I think I have only seen one Sandra Bullock movie before this and she was great! Had some really good comedic timing. Michael Caine also kills it with his sass. Overall, a really entertaining movie that kept me enthralled throughout

Demgirl6 - Bring It On (2000) - Oh this is a classic. I love Kirsten Dunst so much. She is such a delight wherever she appears in. Eliza Dushku is stellar as well. I love the performances and stunt work in the movie. I don't really have much to say otherwise. Its just a really fun movie to watch.

turkeylover - Uptown Girls (2003) - This movie made me feel and that was great! Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning are both fantastic and RIP Brittany. Love her very much. This movie was so sweet and sad (towards the end especially) and everything in between. The score was really nice too. I dont know why this movie did not do well with the critics I thought the two characters had great character arcs. This movie surprised me in a great way.

Congrats on being safe and making it to week 3. I am excited to see what is in store <3

Now onto our TOP 3:

tbrown_47 - Se7en (1995) - So when I first watched this movie a few years ago, I watched it probably under the worst circumstances with my friend. We were both exhausted and could barely see it and we found it be boring. So going in, I was excited to rewatch cause I have since come to love David Fincher (he is one of my all time favs) and man this movie is great. It is so well paced and the story is constantly keeping me intrigued despite knowing it and all of its twisty twists. The two leads work really well together and have such a good contrast in their character development. Fincher is so good at characters and keeping the dialogue tight. It looks great, scored great, edited great and is overall, great!

@PennyTrationStan - Mysterious Skin (2004) - Oh my god this movie was rough! Fuck this was really hard to watch yet I was so invested. To see these two people just so broken and trying to piece their life together was sad as hell. I had to mentally prepare myself before going into this movie because of what I could tell, it looked depressing...and it was depressing but it is an amazing film. I don't think I could ever watch it again but I feel like thats how its supposed to feel. Its not a feel good movie and I respect it.

tyleror - Scream (1996) - A classic critiquing other classics...yes ma'am. I feel like everything that can be said about Scream has been said. Its a movie thats been disected and appreciated forever and im no different. I love this movie and always have since I was like 8. Arguably one of the best casts ever for a horror movie, amazing pacing, and a genuinely intriguing and fun mystery, this is a movie I tend to show people that are starting to get into horror or if they dont watch older movies because it truly holds up.

And the winner of round 2 is....

tyleror! Congratulations!
@PennyTrationStan & tbrown_47 will recieve HIGH placements

And onto our BOTTOM 3 this week:

Jaxon - Thir13en Ghosts (2001) - So, I had very little expectations going into this and I came out enjoying it overall but it definitely has problems. (Sorry Thirteen). The production design is fucking beautiful and stands out so much. They really used their budget well for it and I enjoyed the atmosphere. Matthew Lillard is the greatest actor of all time idc and Shannon Elizabeth is stunning. My issues with the movie are primarily its flashy editing. The jump cuts, while very early 2000's, get very annoying and takes any sort of scare out of a scene cause the set up is there to work but that choice does not pay off. Some of the characters are kind of boring too, particularily Arthur. Most of these problems dont take away the entertainment so thats good!

Becksta20 - Risky Buisness (1983) - We love a classic! Sorry I was not trying to personally attack you lmao but I appreciate the diversity that was brought to this round by you! This is a movie I can't relate to at all but it was still interesting to see it unfold. I dont understand what Tom Cruise was trying to do but I don't really care either cause he is great! That being said, regardless of time period, this isn't a movie that kind of speaks to me or I'd seek out so I wasn't as invested as some other films here but I can't deny that its a well made movie that does what it intends

txashaun - Enough (2002) - Ok i'll start with my negatives. Jennifer Lopez is not a good actor and was miscast. She felt very flat for me and the chemistry the two leads were supposed to have before the abuse started was non-existent. Juliette Lewis was honestly the best part of the movie for me and she was not in it much. I also feel the set-up for the movie was pretty fast and didn't set up Slim all that much. That being said there are some moments I did enjoy. I enjoyed the suspense and tension from the scenes after the escape and it felt pretty tight for the most part, albeit a little clunky in pacing. And its always satisfying to see the main character get peace. Overall, there are things to enjoy but there is alot that for me is hard to overlook

And the person that will be eliminated tonight is.......

txashaun. Im very sorry and I was looking forward to what you had in store after a great first round but it just came up short in comparison. Thank you so much for playing <3

Becksta20 & Jaxon will recieve LOW placements.

And that is it for week 2. Stay tuned for week 3 that will most likely drop tomorrow morning!

TurkeyLover thir13teen ghost is such a banger but I can see how she could be a miss. Being 8 and going on a deep dive with the bonus feature that gives every ghost a backstory was a standout moment not everyone can have
