New's Music Taste - FINALE (RESULTS)

Jan 5, 2021 by NewNightmare7
Welcome to the final show of New's Music Taste! I had a great time this competition listening to everything you guys sent me and I am so thankful for everyone that participated!

With that being said, Rubes has been disqualified at 4th place for not sending anything in. A real shame considering its the end of the competition but that will not take away the final 3!!!

Here are the comments for all the categories:

What Have You Learned
---------------------------------------
tbrown_47 - "Midnight Sky" by Miley Cyrus - Oh this song is amazing. Its probably my fav off of Plastic Hearts. I love the new wave sound of Blondie and her raspy vocals just work so well. I love her new sound and I really enjoyed this album! This is a great choice for this category well done!

Becksta20 - "Call Me" by Blondie - Yeah I guess I let it slip this was my favourite song of all time. Legit, this is the only song I have listened to repeat for hours at a time and still never get bored. No other song has done that for me and I will still say it here, Giorgio Moroder is a genius! Anyways, the drumming is insane in this song and I try my best to emulate it, Debbie's vocals are so beautiful, Giorgio's synth production throughout the whole song that just kicks it up to 100 in the solo is phenomenal. Nigel Harrison's bass work is also amazing. Literally everything about this song is just so good, the key, the chords, the sounds all of it.

useamint - "Knock On Wood" by Amii Stewart - Oh this song is a bop. It sounds a little dated but thats the recording quality not the song itself. I love her vocals she sings really well and I just really like her energy throughout. I always think of Alexis Mateo and her jump. Its pretty great! Great choice!

Outside Your Comfort Zone
--------------------------------------------
tbrown_47 - "Jezebel" by Sade - Yes this is definitely a different choice than what you have submitted before and I really enjoyed it, it's soothing. The saxophone solos are beautiful to hear and her vocals are like on such a different level. The chord progression is really nice too. Im glad ya sent this, it really shows your diversity.

Becksta20 - "Last Hope" by Paramore - I could talk so much about this song just like I can with Blondie. Its beautiful and everything works for me. When I listen to music and I find something really beautiful I end up getting a feeling of like butterflies and I got alot of it from this album buf this song in particular. That being said, based on your reason to send this, I do feel like this could be a bit of pandering and I'm not entirely sure this steps out of your comfort zone all that much considering you have already submitted a Paramore song. I was hoping for a little bit more. I still love the song though!

useamint - "212" by Azealia Banks - Um yes this is definitely a choice that fits the theme for ya. Unfortunately I don't really like this at all. It sounds a little pretentious but also it doesn't really go anywhere. Spoken word rap doesn't do much for me. However, this is probably the best Azealia Banks song I have heard so thats good at least! Just not in my taste I guess.

What Changed Music?
-------------------------------------
tbrown_47 - "Respect" by Aretha Franklin - Oh much respect to Ms. Franklin over here for inspriing many artists to sing with so much soul in their hearts. I appreciate Aretha and her music even if I don't necessarily vibe with it. I think that kind of fits here. I will sing my heart out for the R-E-S-P-E-C-T part but I don't generally seek it out. Don't take it as I don't like the song, cause I do. Just idk if I like it more than the other two this round.

Becksta20 - "Rebel Rebel" by David Bowie - I definitely see Bowie as a huge influential artist. His influence is all over the place and I definitely respect that. I haven't really listened to much Bowie to be honest, I listened to the Ziggy Stardust album about a month ago and I love "Starman"! This song is fine! I think like "Respect" I wouldn't really revisit it but it's definitely fine as a song.

useamint - "Back to Black" by Amy Winehouse - I just bought Back to Black on vinyl for my friend's birthday and we listened to this album for hours. She is such a wonderful artist that it's so heartbreaking to hear her story but everyone pretty much knows about it so I won't go into it. I love her influence in the music world. No one is directly copying her sound (you really can't...shes one of a kind) but they give alot of respect to her through their music and its great! This song is incredible and it's probably my favourite Amy song. Her vocals are just beauty in a nutshell, the strings are great, the drums sound like a jazz kit and I find that to be extroardinary. Needless to say, this song will be timeless.

Closer
----------
tbrown_47 - "Half Time" by Amy Winehouse - Lyrically this is a great choice to close out your journey. I like how the song details taking time to vibe and think out the process. I could be misunderstanding it but thats just my take on it. Sonically, its fine! It's not something I would revisit (unless im high I feel like this would be so chill to listen to high) but I can appreciate this song as a good closer to your performance this contest! Great job!

Becksta20 - "Keep Holding On" by Avril Lavigne - I love this song so much! One of my favs off of "The Best Damn Thing" for sure! I think this is a great closer sonically. It just sounds like the type of song that can end anything on and I will use Glee as a reference. Lyrically I don't necessarily know if it sums up your performance here but I never made that as a rule in this theme. Just a song that ends your journey and I think this song definitely does that! Great job this contest!

useamint - "Naivety" by A Day to Remember - This was pretty great! I wouldn't expect a song like this sonically to close out a journey but honestly, that is not a bad thing. Everyones performance was different and I think this channels your journey well especially with the lyrics and your clarity of just sending songs you enjoy the most being the ones doing really well. A really great job with this closer and contest!
