New's Music Taste - WEEK 11 (RESULTS)

Dec 29, 2020 by NewNightmare7
In a very long hiatus that I wasn't expecting, the game has returned to continue on. Sorry for the delay, holidays suck and I wasn't in a good mood to continue but i'm here now and we shall continue on!

The following three contestants are SAFE:

Rubes - "LM5" by Little Mix - This album comes ball busting right out the gate with "Woman Like Me". This album has a very accessible appeal to it and I appreciate that. The double whammy of "Joan of Arc" and "Love a Girl Right" hit super well! The harmonies were also a highlight especially in "Told You So". "Woman's World" crushes the vocals! I do think that alot of songs faded from my memory after listening. There wasn't a song that I overall disliked but I do think that alot of the beats and stuff aren't really the kind of stuff I generally enjoy for repeats. Overall this is a fun album no doubt about that.

Favourites: Joan of Arc, Love A Girl Right, Woman's World

Christian_ - "Demi" by Demi Lovato - One of the albums I have heard prior to this round! No matter what you are always gonna get a great experience vocally with Demi Lovato. She is one of my favourite vocalists out there and is such a delight. In regards of this album, I had a great time going through it on my first listen. The two opening singles are great and "Without the Love" made me cry and I honestly dont know why. "Neon Lights" is probably still my favourite song from the album and "Warrior" is such a beautiful closer that also got me. On this listen, I still had a fun time but I lost alot of appeal for songs I enjoyed the first time unfortunately. "Two Pieces" "Nightingale" and "Fire Starter" lost its magic for me which was a huge bummer. Originally this was my favourite album of Demi's but after this im gonna listen to Confident cause I tend to still love alot of songs off there and see how I feel. Ultimately, I was very let down on this listen but I still had fun for the most part.

Favourites: Without the Love, Neon Lights, Warrior

useamint - "Golden Hour" by Kasey Musgraves - A very bold choice to come in with a country album after I have eliminated two people for posting country songs. How does this fair? Well at first I wasn't feeling it. Im honestly just not a country person. However, what I liked about this album was how it was experimenting while retaining a sound. "Happy & Sad" is probably my favourite off the album and its just such a pleasant listen "Love is a Wild Thing" also shines in a positive way but those are the only songs I actually took away from it. Ultimately, its a fine album but because its not in my taste at all I just wouldnt come back to it.

Favourites: Love Is a Wild Thing, Happy & Sad

Congrats on making the top 6! We move onto the TOP 2:

Becksta20 - "The Truth About Love" by P!NK - One of the albums I heard prior to the round! I love P!NK! I think she is iconic and her albums all have something great to them (not this last one. That was kind of a trainwreck). When I went through her discography there were only 3 albums I loved in full and downloaded the whole thing, this album was one of them (along with I'm Not Dead and Funhouse). How does it do on a another listen? Well I had a great time still! The singles are so much fun to listen to with "Blow Me" and "Try" being the huge standouts but even "Just Give Me A Reason" and "True Love" which are songs I dont normally listen to were very pleasant. I also love the cuts "Slut Like You" and "Here Comes the Weekend". There are a couple duds like "All We Are We Are" and "The Truth About Love" but they dont weigh down the album. I dont think this is my fav P!NK album tbh but overall, I had a great time and im really happy you chose this!

Favourites: Blow Me (One Last Kiss), Try, Slut Like You, Walk of Shame, Here Comes the Weekend

ILoveLarry - "Speak Now" by Taylor Swift - I have not gotten the chance to listen to a Taylor album yet! Ive been meaning to go through her discography but its the first three albums that scare me cause im just not a country fan. That being said, Taylor has some country bops that I can jam out to. How does this do? Well it starts off really strong! "Mine" is a great opener and single and going through the first five songs I was vibing and was like "Did I finally find Country I like?" "Dear John" has some beautiful vocals and while "Mean" took me out for a moment "The Story of Us" picked back up with Avril vibes of all things. I really wasn't expecting this rock vibe to some of the songs its really enjoyable on how diverse this album is. "Enchanted" is probably my favourite song off the album. Literally everything worked there for me and it was such an experience. "Haunted" gave me Evanescence-ish vibes with the orchestral elements and that was a yes. I do think my main issue with this album is the length to which I have heard is a recurring thing on her albums. It doesnt really bother me here but I can see the criticism personally. Other than that I had a really enjoyable experience with this album so thank you for suggesting it.

Favourites: Mine, Dear John, Enchanted, Haunted, Last Kiss

AND THE WINNER OF WEEK 11 IS....

"The Truth About Love" by P!NK submitted by Becksta20! Congrats! A great album choice!

ILoveLarry will get a HIGH placement! Onto the BOTTOM 2:

ilysuiteheart - "My Everything" by Ariana Grande - Hmm this was definitely an interesting experience but I was left unsatisfied in the end. Its well produced and her vocals are great for sure but alot of the songs just didnt have an appeal. I think one of my biggest issues ultimately was the ammount of features. Deluxe or not they take over more than half of the album and its kind of a bummer cause I wanna hear some of those songs like "Love Me Harder" on her own. "Break Free" and "One Last Time" are obvious standouts and its a case of singles being better than the cuts. While this isn't a bad album I just didnt get alot of enjoyment.

Favourites: One Last Time, Break Free

tbrown_47 - "The College Dropout" by Kanye West - An album I have heard prior to the round! I just went through Kanye's discography in November and I have come to find out I love his music. He's an amazing producer and lyricist and it shows in all of his albums (up to The Life of Pablo) at least. Excluding the two albums after Pablo, this is my least favourite. How does it do on a relisten? Well it took me a long ass time to listen to it. This album is about 70 minutes which is almost long enough to be a modern feature length film and after hearing it once, it was just such a drag to try to get through. Dont get me wrong, it sounds nice and Kanye's production is just immaculate especially with his sampling. I love "School Spirit" and "Slow Jamz" alot and on this relisten came to enjoy "Never Let Me Down". Another issue I have is the skits. They dont really work for me like they do in Late Registration and could cut out a good portion of the length. The final song "Last Call" is a little tedious in its length as well. There are some great 12 minute songs but damn that was a stretch. That being said, its not a bad album, I just had a very meh experience this time around.

Favourites: Never Let Me Down, Slow Jamz, School Spirit, Through the Wire

And the eliminated contestant is unfortunately gonna be...

ilysuiteheart. I'm very sorry but I just couldn't vibe with your album. Thank you for participating and doing really well this game I appreciate it so much!

tbrown_47 will have a LOW placement.

Congrats to the top 6! I will make sure I don't slump again and we kick it into overdrive going towards the end. The next round will be posted very shortly!
