New's Music Taste - WEEK 6 (RESULTS)

Dec 13, 2020 by NewNightmare7
Good evening tengaged and welcome back to New's Music Taste! This week we listened to some of our favourite score from amazing composers and tonight, someone will be eliminated

The following contestants are SAFE (In Order of Submission):

ILoveLarry - "Cantina Band" by John Williams - Wow what a change going from "Time" to this! How can you not enjoy this? It's just so fun to hear 70's John Williams compared to modern John Williams because he just went crazy with everything he did. Like everything he touched was gold! That being said, this not my favourite Star Wars piece (Annakin's Betrayl is just perfection) but its so much fun!

tbrown_47 - "This Is Berk" by John Powell - The ammount of times I saw this in the theatre when this came out astounds me cause I was forced to go so much. That being said the movie is great and the music definitely captures the feel its going for. It could definitely have taken a Ramin Djawadi approach to it (even though Game of Thrones came out after this movie) but it went very traditional and I like that. That being said it's not my favourite but really solid choice!

useamint - "A Promise Kept" by James Horner - RIP James Horner. His work with James Cameron is without a dount some of the best ever created! I love score that makes me feel emotional and Titanic made me really emotional. I love this movie and I love its score. It took me a while to remember where this was in the movie but ugh its just so sad. I think "Rose" or "Never an Absolution" might have been better choices personally but this is a really nice piece that builds so beautifully and tragically

Rubes - "The Avengers" by Alan Silvestri - I like Alan Silvestri's work. He's kind of an underrated composer personally. That being said, this is definitely not my favourite work of his. I think he has better pieces (espeically in the Avenger's series) but you cant help but feel excited when you hear the horns blare.

PennyTrationStan - "The Egg Travels" by James Newton Howard - I really like James Newton Howard. I started really paying attention to him through The Hunger Games and since then really enjoy everything he has done. This is no exception, its very pretty and makes me wanna watch the movie (which I havent seen). It's not my favourite compared to alot of these submissions but its by far not my least favourite.

Kmartt - "Halloween Theme" by John Carpenter - You know whats weird? Is that there is not a original recording available anywhere except for the movie! Idk why but I know for a fact that there is not a beat on the original recording! But oh well what can you do? Anyways, this is obviously iconic and probably one of my favourite score from a horror movie (no surprise as Halloween is my favourite horror movie). Im surprised no one went with more horror themed score as that is some of the best thats out there! Anyways, this is not my favourife rendition though of it. Personally, Alan Howarth's take on Halloween II is superior just cause I love the synths but I'll take this!

Congrats on making it to week 7! Now onto the TOP 3:

Christian_ - "Time" by Hans Zimmer - This is probably the most well known piece of score since Lux Aterna. I hear this shit everywhere but it's everywhere for a reason. I love this! Hans Zimmer's best work on Christopher Nolan's best film (one of my all time favs btw). It hits everything right. Its grand in scale and beautiful melodically. I will never forget hearing this at the end of Inception and feeling so...complete.

Becksta20 - "Hedwig's Theme" by John Williams - To be honest, his work in Harry Potter might be my favourite John Williams has ever done. I love all the different instrumentation he uses and no one will ever think of Harry Potter without thinking about the score. This is just so pleasant to hear and I can literally pinpoint every scene every part of this piece is in! Also, the ending is astounding!

ilysuiteheart - "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" by Nerf Herder - I appreciate you going the TV route! You're the only one who did and went with one of the most badass themes to a TV show of all time! Everytime I hear I can just imagine Sarah Michelle Gellar slaying vampires and makes me wanna watch the show! That being said, there are two versions and this one is the less superior one in my personal opinion. I love seasons 1-2 theme because of its drums and the drum change from season 3 onward is extremely disappointing but what can ya do? This is still great!

AND THE WINNER OF WEEK 6 IS.....

"Time" by Hans Zimmer submitted by Christian_! Congratulations! You will have immunity going into week 7!

Becksta20 and ilysuiteheart will recieve HIGH placements!

Now onto our BOTTOM 3:

Washed_Ravioli - "He's a Pirate" by Klaus Badelt - I had to play this in band class in grade 9. The teacher gave me like 4 parts to do it was a mess. I can appreciate this for sure but not my favourite kind of score I like to listen to personally. It doesnt really do anything for me even when I watch the movie.

QueenM1chelle - "In Motion" by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross - I have to say, regardless of how I feel if I like it or not, Trent and Atticus matched with David Fincher are producing some of the most interesting scores of modern time! You will always find something to respect about it and it all started here! I have alot of things I respect about this: it definitely fits with the movie, the synths are cool and I wanna do some coding! That said, it is pretty repetitive and I wouldnt seek it out like some of the other stuff on here.

crazybone5000 - No Submission...

Well its quite obvious who is going home here...

crazybone5000. Im sorry but you did recieve 3 mails total to submit and failed fo do so. Thank you for playing when you did

Washed_Ravioli and QueenM1chelle will recieve LOW placements.

Well, our first (and hopefully only) casualty by non-submission. Thank you everyone who continues to participate I sincerely appreciate it with all my heart <3! Stay tuned for WEEK 7!
