Making healthy life choices

Jan 11, 2013 by MsBrittany
So not unlike a lot of teenagers today, I am not 100% confident with my outwardly appearance. I know most teenagers have fear that they are not "beautiful" to society, and dislike their body I'm here to say that yes I am not what the media would call "beautiful" or "hot" but I don't care. What I do care about is being healthy. So lately I have been starting to exercise more and eat less "fattening" food, basically trying to not harm my body and become a healthier me. One of my choice is to eat less meat, not become a vegetarian though. So I am filling my diet with vegetables and fruits, as well as grains and so milk products. I am keeping away from meat but leaning more towards the alternatives, which are foods such as beans and eggs as my source of protein. Not only with this help with my intake of fat, it will also help with cholesterol and iron. I need to keep an eye on my intake of cholesterol and iron because of genetics. My grandma on my father's side has hemochromatosis, which is a genetic disease which makes it so the person's body cannot process iron properly. This disease causes iron deposits in the blood stream, which can become clots. I have to keep an eye on cholesterol because my family has a history of high cholesterol levels. Basically I am starting to take care of my body so that if I end up with either genetic issue I will already be on my way to preventing clots forming in my blood stream which can cause heart attacks or strokes. Hemochromatosis and high cholesterol level do not start to affect you until you are older,  but I would rather prepare for it now. I am also eating this way and exercising because I am not happy with my weight, because it is unhealthy. Cutting down on the amounts of unhealthy foods I am eating will help me feel better about my body.
