Edgar comes out of his room to see his parents in the living room, watching tv together. "I thought you two were gone by now?" Edgar asks them, standing in the archway to the hallway. "Oh, the trip is cancelled Mac" his mother answered, not even looking at her son. Edgar looked annoyed at that. A mistake that’s made all the time. “My name is Edgar, not Mac!" Edgar snapped. "Don't talk to your mother like that!" Edgar's father replied. Mac Anderson, Edgar's half-brother, came out of his own room and answered. "Did someone say my name?" Mac said, budging past Edgar. "No hun, Edgar is just acting like a smartass" Edgar's mother answered. Mac walked over to the couch and sat beside his mum. Mac and Edgar's parents started talking about the show, completely forgetting about Edgar. Edgar, being used to this, walked back into his room.
Edgar walked past his alarm clock, which read "5:38" and lay down on his bed. He pulled out his phone and texted his friends Jake and Rylan.
"Gotta problem. Party can't be at mine. Can one of u host it 2nite?"
He waited less than 20 seconds for both of them to reply.
"Nah dude can't" and "Sorry man no can do".
Edgar sighed, and put his phone down. He laid down on his bed, trying to think of another place to host the party. Suddenly Mac opened his door and walked through. "UGH you need to knock next time!” Edgar shouted. "Woah dude chill!" Mac said in a calming voice, hoping his younger brother would calm down too. "Why are you in my room?" Edgar asked rudely. "Someone's tense. Why did you want mum and dad out of the house tonight? You got some gay boy that wants your ass fag?" Mac grinned. "No, asshole!, I wanted to throw a party at mine, bring the guys and-" "oh I know why you want to bring the guys" Mac interrupted and grinned harder.
"Fuck. Off. It doesn't matter because I now have no where to host the party" Edgar said. "Dude just throw it at Woodland Creek!" Mac suggested. "Woodland Creek? The place a bunch of kids were SLAUGHTERED LIKE PIGS?" Edgar said in fear. "Yeah, that was like 5-6 years ago. Me and some mates go and smoke dope there at the empty cabins. All the doors are unlocked, that's like a secret place to go if you run away or become homeless" Mac explained. "You seriously think I can throw a party there, like, actual I'm starting to get desperate" Edgar asked.
"Yeah of course, it's like the best place in town" Mac said. "But it's not in town, it's in the outskirts like a 5 minute drive of a dirt road from the highway to the camping cabins" Edgar explained. "Yeah I kinda know that, I do there at least once a week, also a good place to take some chick alone and-" "I don't wanna hear your detailed scoring" Edgar said. "Whatever man, I'll let you use my generator for power, that place has a couple outlets in each cabin that still functions and some in the mess hall" Mac offered. “Thanks" Edgar said. “Do you know where the camp is?” Mac asked. “Yeah, ill google maps the place” Edgar responded, and Mac walked out of his room.
Edgar took out his phone and messaged Rylan and Jake again.
"Hey fam, got a new idea. I'm throwing it at Woodland Creek. Invite some people but keep it small. Starts @ 8 and it's all night long"...
SCENE 2
Rylan's Car- 5:45pm
Rylan and Jake were in Rylan's car, parked outside Jake's place. "So what did you want to tell me bro?" Jake asked from the shotgun seat, arms crossed. Rylan, in the driver's seat, hands on the steering wheel of the parked car, sighs and drops his arms to his lap. "Remember when I told you I was gay, and you were completely fine about it?" Rylan asked Jake.
“Uh, yeah?" Jake answered, not knowing where this conversation is going. "I kinda wanna tell you another secret, but it's not about me" Rylan said softly, it's clear there's anxiety in his voice, an emotion only Jake ever sees from the wealthy and popular Rylan O'Connor. "I think I like Madison, but I also think Madison isn't a girl. I think Madison is trans, bro" Rylan revealed. Jake looked out through the windscreen, the sun was starting to go down, the was turning orange from Jake's eyes.
“I'm trying to support you bro, but I don't think Madison is trans, you could be mostly gay and a little straight, sexuality orientation isn't boxes, it's a spectrum and everyone is on it" Jake explained. "I'm not bi, I like dick, if I was bi I would of knocked Elizabeth up like 20 times by now, you don't get how it feels to be in the minority" Rylan said hurtfully. Jake looked at Rylan and laughed. “I'm black" Jake stated.
“Why don’t you invite Elizabeth? Along with her...sheeple, and Madison too” Jake asked. “Will do" Rylan said, lowkey hurt that Jake didn't believe him. “Nice ass, thicc boy” Jake teased, comfortable with his straight sexuality. “I know you’ll hit it sometime, just you wait!” Rylan shouted, walking to his door. Jake started the car before driving off.
SCENE 3
Madison/Mason’s House- 5:50pm
Mason looked in the mirror, his new haircut is shorter than it once was. Most people would just expect he's doing a Katy Perry or Halsey. "I am beautiful. I am strong. I am..." Mason began and started to have tears in his eyes. "I am beautiful. I am strong. I am...". A tear rolled down his eye and his phone rang from the top of the draw. He looked at it. It read "Nick". He stared at the phone for a second before sniffing and wiping his teary eyes with one hand grabbing the phone with the other. He exhaled to calm himself and then pressed "Answer".
"Hey Madds, did you get to finish the Nightmare on Elm Street movies?" Nick asked excitedly.
"Oh, uh, no sorry. I've kinda been busy" Mason said, a tone in his voice is guilt.
"...okay, did you watch any of them then?" Nick asked. "I could come over and watch them with you?".
Mason sighed and felt guilty. "No sorry, I haven't watched any and I can't watch them tonight" Mason answered honestly.
There was a pause before Nick answered. "Did I do something wrong, Madds. I mean, the past couple of months, we've hung out less and less. Do you still wanna be my friend?" Nick asked, sharing his thoughts.
"No Nick, it's me. I've just been busy and stuff. I swear to god it's not you, but tonight I can't because I was invited to a party by Rylan" Mason revealed.
"A party? Can I come? Make sure you do anything regrettable" Nick asked.
"Yeah, I'd like you to come, make sure everything goes well. This can be an I'm sorry for not watching any Elm street movies"
"YOU DIDN'T WATCH ANY?" Nick yelled, not angry, Mason could tell the jokingly yet disappointed tone in his voice.
"Come to mine at 7:30, the party starts at 8" Mason said, changing the subject.
"Goodbye" Nick said, a hint of disappointment in his voice. Nick ends the call.
Mason puts the phone down and stares back into the mirror. Mason took a long, deep breath.
"I am beautiful. I am strong. I. Am.... Mason".
SCENE 4
Jake's House- 5:51pm
Jake was sitting in his living room, on his phone on Facebook. His brother sat beside him. "What are you doing?" his nosey brother asked. "Nothing" Jake said, eyes glued to his phone. "Wow you're boring!" his brother said and stood up.
"Oh and by the way mum found a condom wrapper in your room, so I'd be on your best behaviour if I were you" he said and walked off. Jake froze. His mind went to two nights ago with his girlfriend Jessica.
He ignored it and just thought his brother was making up lies so he texted his distant friend from back in the day, Tobias.
"Hey Tobias, haven't seen you in a while. I need the hookup for weed and acid, how much is that altogether?". He sent the text. Not even a minute later and Tobias had replied.
"What's the hookup for?". Jake tapped his finger on the side of his phone, contemplating whether he should tell the truth or not. "For a party" Jake responded. "Can I come if I bring the drugs, free of charge, got a bong too" Tobias said. Jake smiled when he read the text. "Yeah dude sounds like a deal, it's at Woodland Creek at 8ish". Jake sent the text
Jake was worried about the condom wrapper and called Jess, he looked at the time, 5:56pm.
SCENE 5
Tessa's House- 5:56pm
Tessa and her friends Jessica and Fantasia were sitting on Tessa's bed. "Are we doing anything tonight, so you think you'll be allowed out all night?" Jessica asked Fantasia. "Yeah, shocking I am actually! I think maybe because I did well on that last test, but, they finally let me have a sleepover!" Fantasia said with joy.
"Wait hold up, have you EVER had a sleepover before?" Tessa asked. "...um.....no?" Fantasia answered shyly. "Holy sh-" Tessa said, but was interrupted by a phone call. It was from Jessica's phone. Jessica picked her phone up, the caller ID was from her boyfriend, Jake.
"Hey babe" Jessica said
"Hey Jess you sexy babe, I was just calling about two nights ago at mine-"
Jessica's eyes widened in panic.
"Sorry for interrupting babe, but uh, I'm sitting right beside Tessa and Asia"
"Hi!" Tessa and Fantasia said in unison.
Jake laughed from the other line. "Sorry babe, another reason I wanna called is because there's this party at Woodland Creek that starts at 8, you wanna come?" Fantasia and Tessa can come too if they want" Jake proposed.
Tessa gets a text from her crush, Edgar.
"Hey Tessa. Party @ Woodland Creek. Wanna come?"
Tessa read the text. "Hey I just got invited by Edgar too" she announced. "We should totally go!" Jessica said. "Are you sure about this?" Fantasia asked. "I'm going, come on Asia it'll be so fun!" Tessa added.
Fantasia sighed. "Yeah, okay I'll go" Fantasia said, sadness in her voice. She’s never been to a party since she was 12. Tessa and Jessica were very happy, whereas Fantasia just wanted to read. "We are gonna get changed, talk to you later babe" Jessica said and hung up. "Okay let's do this, I think mum's got a couple shots that I can, uh borrow" Tessa said. Jessica laughed while Fantasia felt out of place.
If only she knew what Tessa and Jessica had brought her into...
SCENE 6
Highway- 8:02pm
The three girls were in Fantasia's car, Fantasia was the driver, Tessa in shotgun and Jessica was in the back. "I never thought I'd be back here" Jessica stated. “Excuse you sis?” Tessa asked. “I meant to Woodland Creek, not the backseat” Jessica explained.
“Did you use to go there?" Fantasia asked, eyes on the road. "Yeah as a kid I went there for a couple of years, that's actually where I met Jake as a kid, how did you not know this?" Jessica asked, confused. "I mean I heard of the murders here but I didn't know you went to Woodland Creek while it was open" Tessa said, agreeing with Fantasia. "Well I guess you never asked about it before" Jessica answered, a little sass in her voice. Fantasia and Tessa both brushed it off.
Soon they went on the turn off and down a dirt road, driving deeper into a forest. 10 minutes later, they had arrived at Woodland Creek. There were cars already parked, so they parked in line with the other cars. They could hear music coming from the three cabins which was about 50m away from them. The bathrooms were in between the Mess Hall and the three cabins. "Eagle" cabin, "Bear cabin, and "Rattlesnake" cabin, although "Rattlesnake" cabin looked a lot more damaged than the other two, making it very creepy.
“I don't like the look of this" Fantasia said, looking at Rattlesnake cabin as she walks towards the cabins. "We'll be fine, it's in Eagle cabin, that was the one I always slept in" Jessica said. "Asia I can't believe you didn't change!" Tessa said, looking at Fantasia's outfit, consisting of a light pink sweater, white jeans and white sneakers. "So? I can't wear whatever I want. You can wear less clothing than usual to impress some guys but I just wanna experience a party, we don't live forever" Fantasia said in defence.
Jake walked outside, looking very stoned. He saw Jessica and his face lit up, as if he was somehow feeling lonely beforehand. "Jess babe!" Jake said and ran to Jessica, kissing her. "We are gonna go inside, see you two in a bit" Tessa said and linked arms with Fantasia and the pair walked inside.
SCENE 7
Tessa and Fantasia walk inside Eagle cabin. Pop music was playing. Elizabeth and Reese are dancing with Edgar and Rylan. Tobias and Cordelia are making out on a bunk bed, getting very hands on. Mason and Nick are on a couch, talking.
"Hey everyone! Tessa, Jessica and Fantasia are here!" Edgar said and walked over. Elizabeth and Reese looked over, Tessa noticed Elizabeth rolling her eyes. Tessa's heart skipped a beat when Edgar stood beside her. "You three are the last ones here, twelve people altogether" Edgar observed. "Where's Jessica actually?" Edgar asked. "Oh she's outside with Jake" Tessa said, and looked out the window, Jake was sharing a smoke with Jessica, chatting together.
Reese also saw Jake with Jessica, and got angry. She didn't want some reject twilight girl to have the hot Jake Davison. "I'll be back" Reese said to Elizabeth, who was trying to get into Rylan, who wanted to get into Madison. Reese walked past Tessa. "She’s trouble!” Edgar said to Tessa.
“I'd call her something like a stuck up bitch, you know, something along the lines of that" Tessa said, making Edgar laugh. Tessa smiled and stood closer to Edgar, making it clear what she wanted. "uh, Tessa" Edgar said. "Yeah?" Tessa said, starting to act flirtatious. "I'm gay" Edgar said.
Tessa's flirty mood disappeared very quickly. "Oh my god I'm so so so so sorry!" Tessa said and backed away. "Tessa it's okay it's not your fault" Edgar said. "I feel like an idiot" Tessa said, feeling ashamed. "Don't be, it's actually kinda flattering" Edgar said, trying to lighten the mood. "I-I gotta go" Tessa said, and walked past Nick and Fantasia who were bonding, talking about not usually going to parties and horror movies, and walked outside, and saw Reese and Jessica fighting.
The song changed to more of an R&B feel. Reese was lying face down in dirt with Jessica kneeing her in the back and twisting one of Reese's arms. "You fucking bitch!" Jessica said and twisted it harder. Reese screamed loudly, alerting everyone.
Suddenly the generator behind Eagle cabin goes out and the power along with it. "He's mine!" Reese said and kicked Jessica in the guts and Jessica lets go. "AH! Fucking skank" Jessica said and starts choking Reese. "HEY HEY HEY STOP JESS!" Jake said and picked up Jess.
Reese lay on the ground, getting her breath back. "Let me at her!" Jessica yells. "Babe stop, she's a bitch for doing that but it's over, leave her alone, you won" Jake said and stared into Jessica's eyes. "Breathe" Jake said calmly.
Tessa walked away from the drama to go fix the generator. She walks towards the generator, it's been manually turned off. "What the fuck, everyone's over there, who did this?" Tessa asked to herself and pressed the ‘on’ button, and walked back.
Unfortunately for Tessa, she didn't notice the figure over by the cars staring at her, holding an axe.
Tessa goes around the cabin to the front and everyone's gone inside. She opens it to see Elizabeth calming Reese down and Nick and Fantasia calming Jessica down.
Mason/Madison turns the music off, and everyone's annoyed at them. Nick and Rylan look over at Mason/Madison. “Can I have your attention everyone" Madison yelled. Everyone slowly becomes quiet. "This is hard to say, but what I wanna say is" Mason/Madison starts. Mason/Madison takes a deep breath. “Recently I’ve gone through a sex change, I don’t want to be called Madison anymore. Call me Mason” Mason explains. People clap and cheer for Mason and his bravery, then notices the door wide open. “Someone shut the door it’s cold outside” Mason asked politely.
Tessa also looks at the open door. She feels her spine tingle but not by the cold air. Tessa’s gears start to work in her head. She doesn’t feel safe. The generator, the wide open door, she knew something was wrong.
Out of nowhere, an axe, flung from outside, hits Jake in the back of the head and lodges into his skull. Jake falls to the ground and everyone starts screaming.
