Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 78%
My Score (out of 5): *1/2
Another horror movie. Many of us have the memory of reading these books and being absolutely terrified as kids. I recall reading it at a sleep over and one kid cried the whole time.
Unfortunately, many of its audience are now in their 20s (me included) so toe soup and fat marshmallow ladies just aren’t scary in the slightest. Perhaps if this movie had come out 10 years ago we would be singing a different tune but these stories just did not translate well to 20 year old me.
The acting was great and they stuck true to the books but it was obviously a film intended to scare children, not us adults.
Biggest Positive:
Very nostalgic for those who read the books when they were young
Biggest Negative:
Many scene came off as cringey

MY STAR CRITERIA:
***** - Absolutely phenomenal, near-flawless or flawless.
**** - Fantastic
*** - It's fine
** - Meh
* - Bad
0 - God awful, what the hell???
To be honest I disagree with the “not scary” part. There were plenty of moments for me that were really creepy and some of the jump scares got me. The only part that I didn’t find appealing was the CGI Jangly Man.
